Next time:
Unit 1:
Closure – focus more on always sometime or never: An integer divided by a n integer is sometime an
integer. Rational plus rational is always rational. Etc.
Unit rates – focus on units of measure (feet vs. square feet, build understanding to relate back to when
multiplying and dividing variables)
Unit 2:
daily practice with multiplying/squaring binomials to help when learning factoring.
Drill and kill exponent rules. They need to master these!
Unit 3:
Domain and range- range is down to up (low bound to high bound) students often wrote intervals
backwards going up and down (high bound low bound) build in verbal descriptions as well
Parent functions - focus on identifying, restricted domain and range link to continuous/excluded values.
Graphing using transformations - focus more on the transformation rules than the parent table. I think
students were overwhelmed with making all the tables and then transforming them. When we graphed
quadratics and exponentials second semester they did much better than trying to create all parent tables
and then transforming.
