Birdshot

From the movie that was shown by our subject teacher entitled “Birdshot”, a 2016
Philippine thriller film which was about a story of a 14 year old Filipina farm girl, who
was taught by his father on how to shoot a gun, in order to learn how to take care of
herself, she ended killing an endangered Philippine eagle which lead her to different
consequences. Overall, I really liked the film because the flow of the story was well-
organized, the cinematography of the film was very good, and the color grading of the
film together with its music/ambient perfectly sets the mood of the scenes. I would
strongly agree with the Director regarding about the message that he/she is trying to
deliver since it is clear that people are being controlled by greed and equality in the eye
of the law is no longer present in our society today. It also showed how corruption and
fear/threat can easily change the ethics or moral principles of a person, even the most
upright person can be changed by the influence of corruption.

From my point of view, the purpose of the director was to show the audience how
corrupt our country has become and how the government has turned a blind eye to the
different complaints of people that are under the lower-class society especially the
farmers. The purpose of the director was also to show how injustice our system has
become; how money can easily control the minds of our leaders, and manipulate the
world around us so that we, the Filipinos would wake up and realize everything around
us has become a mess, our government, our system, equal rights, and the list goes on
and on.

But overall, I really liked the film because the theme of the film wasn’t cliché; if
you would ask me, I could say that the film is very unique and extraordinary. The film
contains different lessons that we, Filipinos could reflect on and realize something about
what’s happening to our system. And lastly, the reason why I liked the film is that every
scene/happening would make you feel the same way on how the characters would feel
and it sets the mood of every scene making you feel that you are a part of it.
