UNIT III: DESCRIPTION

Content: Process Description

Process description:
A process paragraph is a series of steps that explain how something happens or
how to make something. It can explain anything from the way to enrich
vocabulary .The process paragraph must be written in chronological order, and it
must include a topic sentence that clearly states the paragraph’s purpose .It must
also include words such as “first”, “next”, “finally” and other words that connect
each of the steps.

Example:

The rainwater cycle


How coffee is grown
How glass is made
Getting a driving license
Starting a business.

Writing a process description

When you explain the step-by-step order of how things happen, or how things
get done, you can follow in this way:
1. Make a list of the steps in the right order.
2. Start with an introductory sentence about the process.
3. Use sequence words –first, second, next, finally…
4. Use the correct voice –Passive or Active.
5. Read the instructions carefully.
6. Finish using a concluding sentence.
