Option 1: Discuss the differences between music we describe as “vernacular’ and music we describe as
“classical.” Why are these distinctions important?

Option 2: How can form reflect the philosophy or aesthetic values of a particular time, place, and/or
culture? Use examples from assigned listening as well as examples you can think outside of what we
have assigned.
