I. Introduction

b. Audience Relevance: “when you do something recurrently, day after day, you go
deeper in the sea, and eventually the depth becomes deeper than your will, afterward

c. Credibility: I am a recovering addict, and I have struggled through many

different forms of addiction including drugs, sex, and self-harm. I would like
to throw in there that I found numerous programs to help combat the disease
of addiction.
d. Thesis and Preview: There are many different types of addiction that most
people are unaware of. Today I will be informing you all on Drug addiction,
Sex addiction, and self- harm addiction.
Transition to the first main point Before I talk about drug addiction… “define addiction”
II. Main Point 1: Drug addiction is alive and well,
a. Sub point A-
“According to the World Drug Report data, drug-related deaths in 2012 were reported to
be 183,000 (range: 95,000–226,000), with a corresponding mortality rate of 40.0 (range:
20.8–49.3) deaths per million among the population aged 15–64 (United Nations Office
on Drugs and Crime, [ 30] ); further, substance abuse cannot only lead to premature
death, such as in the case of overdose but also severely curtail the quality of life through
disability (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, [ 30] ).” (Hsieh, Tsai, Tsai,
Hsu, & Hsu, 2015)
b. Sub point B- I have some personal knowledge on this topic considering I have
suffered from the disease of drug addiction. I have worked with many drug
addicts who have become addicted to a range of different drugs. Some
examples are Meth, opiates, marijuana, Acid, Mushrooms, ecstasy, and even
air duster whip-its.
c. Sub point C- If one wanted to seek help for themselves or a loved one they
could call the Pacific Cliniques Hotline at 1-877-722-2337. There is also a

III. Main Point 2: Sex addiction is a real thing.

a. Sub point A- “An increasing number of people recounting excessive sexual
thoughts or behaviors have been categorized as suffering from sex
addiction or hypersexual disorder” (Briggs, 2017)
b. Sub point B- Most people don’t know that sex addiction is a “real
thing”, however, I have experienced the addiction first hand.
Sexual hyperactivity typically feeds off of underlying
emotions/feelings whether conscious or subconscious. In a
majority of cases, the sex addict will also have a co-addiction such
as drugs or gambling.
c. Sub point C- If one desired to seek help for themselves or
someone they love they could call (855) 454-0025 which is an (all
addictions help hotline.)

V. Main Point 3: Self-mutilation is, in fact, an addiction.
a. Sub point A- Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) may be characterized as a process
addiction for some individuals who s elf-injure. ( Buser & Buser, 2013)

VI. Conclusion: There are many types of addictions as well as resources to help the
sufferers of them.
a. Restate thesis: There are many different types of addiction that most people
are unaware of. Today I will be informing you all on Drug addiction, Sex
addiction, and self- mutilation addiction.
b. Review main points: The main points I went over today are that Drug
addiction is alive and well, Sex addiction regardless of contrary belief is a real
thing, and Self-mutilation is, in fact, an addiction.
