In my understanding of the report and personal reading of the reference book, it appears that Realism,
as a classical philosophy, runs opposite to the belief of those who subscribe to Idealism.

The central thought of this philosophy is that universals have a real objective existence; that the objects
of sense perception have an existence independent of the act of perception.

St. Thomas Aquinas offers a more theological perspective on this philosophy by stating that, “matter, the
material substance out of which the world did not co-exist with God before the creation of the universe.
Matter was created by God...”

This philosophy is very consistent with some modern and traditional methods of delivering learning;
such as the use of visual aids, learning materials, and the Montessori approach where the teacher
facilitates learning through the use of materials that can be manipulated by the pupils.

An important underlying principle of Realism as a philosophy that is worth noting is that it suggests that
all beings, material or immaterial, can be understood clearly by the human mind as they appear to be
what they are.
