A health care provider is an individual medical practitioner or company that provides

health care or medical services to people. As the world continues to advance and new health

conditions discovered, more and more health facilities are being established and the big question

for them is how they are remaining relevant with the current world advancements. While some

are struggling, some like MediHeal Group of hospital have remained popular. MediHeal is a top

health care service provider and we take a look at how the group of medical practitioners has

made it this far.

MediHeal group of hospitals is a renowned leading health care service provider in East

Africa that focuses on world class and cost effective medical services. It was established in 2002

in Eldoret Kenya with branches in Nairobi, Nakuru and Kigali, Rwanda. This hospital that prides

itself in its quality services was initiated fourteen years ago and has since then been thriving thus

attracting individuals from across East Africa and the globe (Gürel & Tat, 2017). The company’s

core values which include: discipline, innovation, sense of urgency, excellence and respect for

humanity have been their key motivation factor in delivering sustainable services together with

their committed team of medical experts. The group offers tertiary level, diagnostic, surgical and

therapeutic services.

The facility’s management team has collaborated with the African nations to provide

affordable, world class and reliable health services to people. As much as they have only

established their physical presence in Kenya and Rwanda, they not only attend to patients in

those countries but also to patients from Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan, Uganda, Burundi and

Congo (East African Countries) at very affordable costs (Gürel & Tat, 2017). Their passion for

humanity keeps them at the top in the medical industry. They have also pioneered innovations
3

such as over 50 Renal Transplants with highest success in Africa and delivering the First IVF

baby in Rwanda and many more.

Competition in the medical sector is becoming stiff by day, it therefore is important for

any health care provider to develop a strategy on how to maintain its customers by improving

their services. With the technological advancements, data analytics is a tool that is currently used

to collect and analyze customer or employer feedback so as to improve services. SWOT analysis

creates a summarized view of the current status of an organization (Mohamad, et al, 2012). It

shows how well a company is doing in terms of Strengths, where it needs to improve as

Weaknesses, where it needs to invest more in terms of the available Opportunities and the things

that should be taken care of as Threats, the SWOT analysis.

MediHeal is an exemplary health care provider in the delivery of medical services.

However, there is never success without failure, a strength without a weakness. Every institution

faces changes which should be worked on to keep it at par with the rest. The following is the

MediHeal SWOT analysis;

Strengths

 Commendable health services

 Affordable health care services.

Weaknesses:

 Long procedures during a patients discharge for admitted patients.

 Poor communication between the medical practitioners.

Opportunities

 Implement Mobile clinic or Flying doctors for emergency and international cases.
4

 Establish more physical stations in East Africa

Threats

 Competition from other medical providers may hence lose patients.

 Cyber security

MediHeal has been thriving on its strengths as previously mentioned. Their key strengths

have been their commendable health care services and low cost of treatment. From the customer

experience feedback, MediHeal provides good and reliable medical services which ranges from

patients being discharged when they are fully recovered, clean wards and hospital environment,

caring and friendly medical practitioners (Mawenzi & Parikh, 2018). The medical expertise team

does an excellent is always in time to attend to their patients. Very minimal fatalities occur in

this facilities as their aim is to save lives.

In-patients at MediHeal have often raised an eyebrow on the procedures during a

patient’s discharge. They are cleared on the last day and it takes times since all the transactions

that pertain to hospital bill are done on that day. Furthermore the patients have to be cleared from

all the departments that attended to them during their stay which tiresome (Ishino & Kijima,

2005). The procedures need to be shortened to allow those who come from far reach home in

time. Bill be calculated a day prior to the discharge day in order to smoothen processes on the

last day. Poor communication among the doctors another weakness at MediHeal (Ishino &

Kijima, 2005). In cases where the patient has to be attended to by more than one practitioner,

there is sometimes a missing link when the next doctor comes in such that they have to inquire

from the patient about the previous medication administered to them. Some patients may be too
5

sick to communicate correctly or the caretaker naïve. This may cause a delay in the procedures

hence putting at risk the life of the patient.

MediHeal health facility should capitalize on the establishment of mobile clinics and

flying doctors which would come in handy in response to emergency and critical cases. These

services will help save those in remote areas where means of transport is a challenge. They will

also be able to reach as many patients as possible that widening their scope of service. MediHeal

group of hospitals is only established in two East African countries (Mohamad, et al, 2012).

They should figure out on establishing more locations beyond East Africa so as to be efficient.

Patients will be attended to in their country of residence rather than having to travel and spending

money on fare. With their excellent services, more lives will be saved.

More and more health facilities are coming up thus competition from fellow practitioners

is stirred up. The best competition is against an individual, however, this health facility has to

identify the facilities that are doing better that them so as be challenged to improve their facilities

and services and the technology put in place. Otherwise they become obsolete. Moreover, more

health practitioners should be hired for division of labor since they provide some of the critical

services like surgery and sometimes the medics may be overwhelmed. Being a renowned health

facility, MediHeal is posed with cyber security challenges. Many companies and individuals are

interested to know how they have been able to thrive and thus may hack their systems in order to

gather some information. Patient data may also be stolen and used maliciously. Application

security measures such as data encryption, Multi Factor Access (MFA) and logging should be

incorporated in their software systems to prevent malicious access and data theft.

SWOT analysis is key to the success of any organizations. It helps companies focus on a

broad aspect of their company by highlighting Key Performance Indicators and where to
6

improve. The organization is also able to prepare for the future. If opportunities are not met with

preparedness organizations may lag behind in service delivery and hence lose the market. Above

all else, focus on the customer and everything else will fall in place.
