1. Proposed Research Title:

A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS: LEVEL OF SATISFACTION ON SELECTED

FASTFOOD CHAINS IN MANDALUYONG CITY TOWARDS THE IMPACT
ON NET INCOME BEFORE AND DURING PANDEMIC

2. Main Bases / Justification for the proposed title (Cite literature or reports as
justification or significant bases of your topic)

To begin with, the effect of COVID-19 Pandemic is clearly sighted in the business
industry especially in the food service activities. As a matter of fact, according to the survey
gathered by ADB Philippines Enterprise in regards to their report entitled ‘COVID-19: Impact
on Business’ specifically from Region 1 to BARRM, that out 356 business establishments 5
of which are open, 69 are open but limited operations, 276 are temporarily closed and 6 are
permanently closed and will not reopen. From that figure, we can conclude that the effect of
Pandemic is evident especially the sudden drop of their net income. One of the major
dominant in the food service activities here in the Philippines are the fast food chains such as
Jollibee, Mcdonalds, and KFC etc. in which are greatly affected due to COVID-19, if we look
to the earning reports of Jollibee Corporation based on the report gathered by Rappler there is
a 12-billion net loss in the 1st half of 2020 where 255 stores of it chose to closed where it is a
same cases with the given fast-food chains. It is far different before the Pandemic in terms of
net income because as we all know they are the giants of fast food chains here in the
Philippines, that’s why we come up with the a qualitative research where we focuses on
measuring their level of satisfaction in net income of each fast food chains in the vicinity of
Mandaluyong City so that we can determine the severity of the impact and adaptability of
each business establishments in addressing the problems during the Pandemic.

In regards to the subject of our research topic, as we all know, Mandaluyong is

considered as ‘Tiger City’ because of active business activities where it is cited by World
Bank as the ‘most business-friendly city’ and primarily it is occupied by many fast-food
chains. In the news article by ‘Manila Times’ entitled ‘Mandaluyong has high potential for

business’ it is quoted there that out of 148,200 sqm. of office for rental 42% percent of it has
already been leased. With that being said, the reason behind it is because of the strategic

location and friendly environment where it is burgeoning area for business and investments
while also maintaining the city as an ideal place to live in. However, due to COVID-19 the
‘Tiger City’ becomes a lonely tiger because based on the preceding survey of ADB Philippine
Enterprise that the status sales in the National Capital Region where the Mandaluyong is
belong was decreased by 48.5% out of 100 percent who responded to the survey.
