Āsanā Kāya Deū Bā Tulā.

Alakshya Lakshunī Pāhe Nīja-vastu.

Parāt-para Čīnmaya Brahma-rūpa Teja Pratyaksha Āhe.
Concentrate on Him, outside and inside pervading everywhere, your own Self; ever-shining,
ever-ready, self-effulgent, ever-pure Self, ever-present before you.

Guru-pada Vandunī Ādhi Pāhī Tū.

Hrudayāntarī Shodhūnī Manā-te Dhūrta Karī Bodhunī.
Bow down to your Master and whatever He teaches, follow that. Keep your mind on alert and
find Him out in the heart-cave, where the eternal, ever-pure Self is residing.

Kāma-krodha Mada-matsara Angi.

Dambhāhankāra Jīra-vunī Dvaita-kalpanā Māra Tyāgunī.
Wish, anger, ego; mind has this habit. Forget it! Leave these thoughts of duality. Kill them and
destroy these enemies.

Ekā-gre Mana Svastha Karoni.

Baisa Padmāsani Mudrā Lāva Ātma-bhāshani.
Always focus your mind on Oneness, sitting like Master in padmasana. Understand that “I am
He.” Short and sweet comes right there; experience it in your own Self.

Drushtī Āta Drushtī Suranga. Karunīyā Sama Drushtī Maga.

With eyes closed, see the Oneness inside. He is there then so many colors come.

Nānā Tar-heče Ranga Suranga.

Rakta-shweta-pīta Āhe Pudhe Nil-varna Teja Jānāve. |1|
Say everything is One; equality for all. Due to Him you see different colors; red, white, yellow,
green.

☆ Alakshya Lakshunī Pāhe Nīja-vastu.

Nila-varna Te Bīmbākāshi.

Čaitanyā-či Musa Tyā-madhye Vastu Jadali Ase.
In Parabrahma, the mould of consciousness has infinite varieties of creation and every creation
made, is supported by the Self, like Brahma from the navel of Lord Vishnu, from where all
creation comes.

Trīkuta Bhedunī Ulata Jātā.

Mi Mārga-ne Dhase Rūpa Arūpa Ho-ūnī Pravesha.
Through meditation, going beyond the triad of experience, you enter and become He, the
shapeless Reality. Enter with ego/mind and then forget that ego/mind.

Unmana Hounīyā Bramha-randhri.

Samādhī Lāvū-nī Base Tethe Kāla Kadā Nā Dha-se.
Mind becomes no-mind; Self. In that state of samadhi there is no time, no space, you are as
you were before; He.

Sīddha-purusha To Yoga Sādhunī. Tāpā-stavīto Karuni Harana.

One who strives to attain this, by a miracle can understand; his troubles/duality go away and
he remains happy with Himself.

Āpulā Āpana Rāhe Nīmagna.

Tyālā-čī Prāptī Hoya Čarāčara Ava-gheči Bramha Āhe. |2|
When He remains in that state, He understands and experiences both sentient and insentient.
There is no place without Him.

☆ Alakshya Lakshunī Pāhe Nīja-vastu.

Sadguru-krupā Jakhama-čī Vāri.

Jyālā Ghāva Lāgela Točī Ghāyāla-gati Ghumato.
By His grace, Guru gives you a wound because you don‘t like Oneness!! One who gets such a
wound in the mind becomes restless to find Him, and enters the space where ego cannot go.

31
Bija-mantra Hā Japa Gāyatri.

Ashto-prahara Yojī-to Sādhana Ghadī Pala Ghadī Sā-dhīto.
Master gives the Gayatri mantra, and tells you to think of Him every moment, not of others,
and you’ll find the way.

Aham-bhāve Mi Pana Tana Dhana.

Guru-čaranī Arpīto To Hā Mūla Pītyā Ičchīto.
With ego I surrender my ego, mind, money, body, at the feet of the Master, the original
Father-Godfather, wishing to meet Him.

Akhanda Tanmaya Tyā-ta Lub-dhuni. Nīja-vastu Lakshīto Lo-čani.

Every moment concentrate on me, the Self, for I am everywhere, without ‘I’. This One has no
wish.

Nīra-peksha To Nīrmala Prāni.

Jagāta Vedā Rāhe Antari Gnyāna-bodha-rasa Pīye. |3|
He is always satisfied, clean, pure, complete, always tasting the drink of Self-knowledge and
remaining as He.

☆ Alakshya Lakshunī Pāhe Nīja-vastu.

Sadguru-krupā Uttama Jyāsi.

Sahaja Hā-tāsi Āli Tyālā Nīja-vastu Lādhali.
By Master‘s grace He says very important things. Once you understand and do it, you become
Reality.

Pāha-tā Pāha-tā Ātma-jyota Hi.

Vairāgye Pā-jala-li Čīnmaya Vastu Dala-mala-li.
Once you understand, you become He instantly. You see everywhere yourself and then always
have dispassion.

Shāha-lī-ranga Santa Pramānā.

Dhanya Guru-mā-ūli Ānande Harī-vara Krupā Keli.
By His grace, Master/Mother has given me understanding and I remain in that Grace always.
Saints like Shaha and Liranga have affirmed.

Kavana-katākshe Karī Sīddhanta. Ganapatī Bhima-sena Gāto Sabheta.

Openly you give out this understanding and that miracle has been like a joke! Ganapati,
Bhimsen very strongly say this is my experience which I write for you.

Guru-putra To Gnyāna-vanta.

Aikunī Tal-līna Hoya Lungarā Vyartha Čāvati Vāhe. |4|
With this knowledge, as a disciple of a real Master, I praise my Master. A good disciple follows
the Master and is benefitted. Others waste their lives and follow the cycle of birth and death.

Aučata Su-kru-te Nara-dehā Zāli Bheti. Pashu-suta-jaya Dhana-dhami Priti Mo-thi.

Parī Khala-jana He Na Detī Kava-di Te Hi. Pari Hi Āshā Pāpinī Lājata Nāhi.
But all these selfish people did not give a single paisa for what I‘ve done for them. What‘s the

☆ Sakhyā Rāmā, Sīddharamā, Vīshrāntī Tuze Nāmi.

Jav-varī Drudhatā Tav-vari Yā Tanu-či Priti. Jara-jara Za-līyā Ava-ghe-čī Nīndaka Hoti.
As long as the body is strong, you feel happiness in the body. When it becomes old and
decaying, everybody hates you.

Yači Du-hu-khe Tujalā Mi Sāngū Kīti. Mha-nunī Yeto Shridhara Kāku-lati.
So much unhappiness and bad words from others! While young, know the Reality. Shridhar

Kāya Dyāve Tyāsi Vhāve Uta-rāī (2). Thevī-tā Hā Pāyi (3). Jiva Thodā.
What can I possibly offer to repay you? You have given real understanding which cannot be

This doubt, “I am the body” is gone, by your grace and automatically I am He.

Grace of Master is knowledge, like Ganges and Bhagirathi; His two feet are forgiveness and

Asī-pade Ekatra Jethe Hoti. Svānubhava Snāna He Mukta-sthīti.
Hence these (holy rivers) are one in Sadguru, and His grace is ever-flowing liberation for me.

☆ Zāli Sandhyā (2), Sandeha Māzā Gelā.

Sad-buddhi-če Ghālonī Darbhasana. Kshamā Dayā Shri-Guru Padmāsana.

I have become Brahman and Sandhya is performed by sitting at the seat of pure intellect in the
posture of forgiveness and mercy. I know that everything is knowledge; compassion and mercy
come for all and I am at rest.

Shama Dama Angi Vībhūtī Le-pana. Vāče Uč-čāri Keshava-Nārāyana.
The ashes on the body are in the form of Shama[controlling the mind] and Dama[controlling

☆ Zāli Sandhyā (2), Sandeha Māzā Gelā.

Bodha-putra Nīr-mana Zālā Jevha. Mamatā Mhātāri Maronī Geli Te-vhan.

By performing Sandhya at the seat of meditation, the disciple becomes ‘putra’, wise son of
Reality, and old lady Mamata[‘me’ and ‘mine’ attachment] dies.

Bhaktī Bahina Āli Ase Gāvā. Ātā Sandhyā Karu Mi Kaishi Ke-vhan.
Once understanding comes then sister-devotion arrives to greet me, and there is no need for me
to perform Sandhya. You worship Him as Oneness.

☆ Zāli Sandhyā (2), Sandeha Māzā Gelā.

Sahaja Karme Zāli Brahmā-prana. Ai-se Ai-konī Nīvatī Sādhu-jana.

All actions performed have become Brahman now and Saints are happy. Offer yourself, and

This cow has a thousand eyes[through which perception is possible] and nine ears. He has 17

Ai-shi Kāmadhenū Vyāsā-ne Pālīli. Shukā-ne Valīli Janaka-ghari.

This cow Kamadhenu has understood Vyasa[Master] who feeds her, Sukamane[son & disciple]
who drinks all the milk, and Janaka[King] who protects her.

Tukā Mhane Ai-se Bhāgya Narā Bhe-te. Abhā-gya Karante Vāyā Gele.
Tuka says, those who understand, by the grace of the Master, are blessed. Those unlucky,
ignorant people who don‘t understand, have lost their lives unnecessarily.

Deha To Pandhari Prema Punda-lika. Sva-bhāva Sanmukha Čandra-bhāgā.

Rāja-dhī-rāj Sadguru-nāth Shri Sīddharāmeshwar Mahārāj Ki Jai.

Rāja-dhī-rāj Sadguru-nāth Shri Bhāūsāheb Mahārāj Ki Jai.

1.

Janmā-če Te Mūla Pāhīle Shodūna. Duhu-khāsi Kārana Janma Ghyāvā.

The root cause of birth is nothing but misery. When you take a body, duality comes.

Pāpa-punya Karūni Janma Yeto Prāni. Nara-dehā Yeūnī Hānī Keli.

With an equal balance of virtues and sins you get a human body. You don’t appreciate the
human body and make the worst of life, running here and there for happiness.

Raja-Tama-Sattva Āhe Jyā-če Angi. Yā-ča Gune Jagi Vāyā Gelā.

By rajas, tamas and sattva, you work with life, and by these attributes you uselessly lose your
life without understanding.

39
Tama Mhane Kāya Naraka-či Kevala. Raja To Sabala Māyā-jāla.
Tamas is nothing but the shit of the ego, hell. Rajas is thinking again and again of worldly
affairs.

Tukā Mhane Yethe Satvā-če Sāmarthya. Karāvā Parmārtha Ahar-nīshi.

Stick to the Sattva guna, and day and night think that this is not true, and understand what is
Reality.

2.

Ahar-nīshi Sadā Parmārtha Karāvā. Pāya Na The-vāvā Āda-mārgi.

Whole day and night understand this is nothing, and don’t go the wrong way.

Āda-mārgi Koni Jana Je Jātila. Tya-tūni Kādhila Točī Gnyāni.

One who is going the wrong way, only a realized person takes him to the right path.

Točī Gnyāni Kharā Tāri Duji-yashi. Velo-velā Tyāsi Sharan Jāve.

Only a realized person gives real understanding and takes you to the right path. Go to His feet
and accept what He says!

Āpana Tarela Navhe Te Navala. Kule Uddharila Sarvān-či To.

He gives others understanding and they can swim this ocean which is not true.

Sharana Gelī-yāne Kāya Hote Phala. Tukā Mhane Kula Uddharile.

Tuka says, by going to Him, you understand and make your family understand.

3.

Uddharile Kula Āpana Taralā. Točī Eka Zālā Trailo-kyāta.

He is the real person in all three worlds, who can make people understand.

Trailo-kyāta Zale Dvaita-čī Nīmāle. Aise Sādhī-yele Sādhan Barave.

This rare person sees no duality, only Oneness and He gives this understanding to others,
making them great.

Barave Sādhana Sukha Shāntī Manā. Krodha Nāhi Jānā Tīla-bhari.

By following His guidance you become He. Anger vanishes because you know Myself is
everywhere.

Tīla-bhari Nāhi Čīttāsi To Mala. Tukā Mhane Jala Gange-če Te.

Tuka says: Dirt of the mind is cleaned and you’re like the Ganga[Ganges] which cleans
everybody.

40
4.
Jaisi Gangā Vāhe Taise Tyā-če Mana. Bhagavanta Jāna Tyā-če Java-li.
Your mind is like the Ganga cleaning out the dirt[duality]; like Lord’s[Bhagavan’s] place.

Tyā-če Java-li Deva Bhaktī-bhāve Ubhā. Swanandā-ča Gābhā Tayā Dīse.

Due to his devotion, He is always with Him. He sees everywhere His Self, and is complete.

Tayā Dīse Rūpa Angustha-pramāna. Anubhavi Khūna Jānati He.

The realized one sees Himself everywhere, as clearly as you see your own thumb. Those who
have no understanding cannot understand Him.

Jānati He Khūna Svātmānubhavi. Tukā Mhane Padavi Jyā-či Tyālā.

Tuka says: One who has Self-understanding remains in Himself, no need to tell anybody.

5.
Jyā-či Tyālā Pada-vi Itāra Na Sāje. Santā-lā Umaje Ātma-sukha.
He remains in Himself. They don’t understand Him. Only Saints of that status know who He is.

Ātma-sukha Ghyāre Ughadā Gnyāna-drushīti. Yāvina Čāva-ti Karu Nakā.

Open your eyes with knowledge and see everybody as Oneness. Don’t say wrong things, or
gossip about Him. Take the knowledge of Self from Him that only He offers.

Karū Nakā Kāhi Santa-sanga Dharā. Pūrvi-čā Jo Dorā Uga-va-lā.

Don’t do anything! Just go to the Saint so you can understand. When real understanding comes
your luck will open.

Uga-vela Prārabdha Santa-sange Karūni. Pratyaksha Purāni Varnī-yele.

In the vicinity of a Saint your luck will open and you can understand, “Who Am I?” In the
Puranas (old mythological books) it is described.

Varnī-ye-lyā Ekā Guna-nāma-ghoshe. Jātila Re Dosha Tukā Mhane.

Tuka gives this proclamation that nothing is true; only Yourself is true.

6.
Dosha Re Jātila Ananta Janma-če. Pāya Tyā Devā-če Na Sodā-ve.
Since many births you’ve taken this world as true, which is the real sin. The Saint is the real
One. Never leave His feet. Understand what He gives and never forget.

Na Sodā-ve Pāya Nish-čaya To Karā. Ālavā Shāranga-dharā Bhāva-bale.

Make yourself strong; determine that He is the only one who can give you the real truth. Be
yourself He!(Sharangad/Krishna)

41
Dharunī Keshava Āna Bhāva-bale. Pāpīyā Na Kale Kāhi Kelyā.
He says, “I am not the body, I am He.” Ignorant persons don’t understand this.

Na Kale To Deva Santa-sangā Vāčunī. Vāsanā Jālonī Shuddha Karā.

This will be understood only in the vicinity of a Saint. Burn wrong desires and make the desire
for the Self only.

Shuddha Karā Mana Dehā-tita Vhāve. Vastusi Olkhāve Tukā Mhane.

Make your mind clean by understanding That. Then you will know you are not the body. Only
then will you know that where you ‘stay’ is He, says Tuka.

7.

Ola-khāre Vastu Sāndāre Kalpanā. Nakā Ādarānā Jāū Zani.

Understand the Reality and don’t go astray, not for a moment. If you try to know through
thoughts you’ll only wander the world.

Zani Jāla Kothe Buda-vāla-hīta. Vīčāri Manāta Āpulīyā.

If you go astray by following your thoughts, you’ll forget your own interest: Yourself. Say, “Oh
mind, you’re a thinking mind. Understand, I am He.”

Āpulīyā Jive Shivāsī Pa-hāve. Ātma-sukha Ghyā-ve Velo-velā.

Understand, “I am not a jiva[individual], I am Shiva.” Don’t be a shape. Don’t touch anything.
By realizing this, you will experience Self-happiness.

Ghyā-ve Ātma-sukha Swarūpi Mīlāve. Bhūti Lina Vhā-ve Tukā Mhane.

This way, you become He. Merge with all the elements and then all the people are Myself.

8.

Bhūti Lina Vhā-ve Sāngā-ve Nala-gečī. Ātā Ahankāra-či Shāntī Kāra.

If you merge in Yourself, that ego is gone. You are everywhere.

Shānti Karā Tumhi Mamatā Na-sāvi. Antari Vasāvi Bhūta-dayā.

When you say ‘mine’ then you protect it. Say everybody is mine, then ego goes off.

Bhūta-dayā The-vā Maga Kāya Une. Prathama Sādhana He-čī Ase.

Have mercy for all; “I am everywhere.” “He is Myself,” in whatever state he may be. This is the
only sadhana.

Aso He Sādhana Jyan-če Čītti Vase. Māyā-jāla Nāse Tukā Mhane.

When such thinking comes in the mind, then illusion/Maya doesn’t remain, says Tuka.

42
9.
Māyā-jāla Nāse Yā Nāme-karunī. Pritī Čakra-pāni Aso Dyāvi.
The net of illusion doesn’t remain when you have love for Krishna[Chakrapani].

Aso Dyāvi Priti Sādhūn-če Pāyā-si. Kadā Kirtanāsi Sodū Naye.

Have deep love for the Saint and don’t forget His greatness. He has taken the name of God

Sodū Naye Purāna-shravana Kirtana. Manan Nīdīdhyāsa Sākshātkāra.

Don’t leave the books of knowledge; hear Saints and sing that only. Think always of Him; That
way you will get Self-understanding.

Sākshātkāra Zālīyā Sahaja Samādhi. Tukā Mhane Upādhi Geli Tyā-či.

The Self-understanding that in every shape is He, is natural samadhi. And outward shape has
gone, says Tuka.

10.
Geli Tyā-či Jānā Brahma To-čī Zālā. Antari Nīvālā Pūrna-pane.
Once you understand nothing is true, worries have gone and you remain as Brahman. Inside,
your mind is calm and quiet.

Pūrna-pane Dhālā Rāha-to Kaishā Riti. Tyā-či Ātān Sthīti Sāngato Mi.
When One is completely satisfied, how does He stay? I’ll tell you the secret.

Sāngato Mi Tumhā Aikā Mano-gata. Rāha-to Mūrkha-vata Jagā-māji.

Listen to me single-mindedly. He remains just like a foolish person.

Jagāta Pīshā-čča Antari Sha-hānā. Sadā Bramhi Jānā Nīmagna To.

Outside, He lives like a mad man, but inside He is always concentrating on the Self.

Nīmagna-to Sadā Jaisā Maka-randa. Antar-bāhya Bheda Vega-lā-le.

Like the bee, only interested in honey from the flower, He is always thinking of the Self. Inside
and outside, only Self.

Vega-lā-le Bheda Kīti Tyā Asatī. Hrud-gata Tyā-či Gatī Na Kale Kava-nālā.
Nobody can understand Him or what He does or his thinking.

Nakale Kava-nālā Tyā-če He-čī Varma. Yogi Jāne Varma Khūna Tyā-či.
What he is, one cannot understand. Only Yogis who understand correctly, know the essence in
Him.

Khūna Tyā-či Jāne Je Taise Asati. Tukā Mhane Bhrāntī Dujī-yālā.

Only those who have the practice of Reality know the true identity of a Saint. Others have
wrong notion, says Tuka.

43
11.

Dujī-yālā Bhrānti Bhāvī-kālā Shāntī. Sādhū-či Ti Vruttī Lina Zāli.

Others misunderstands Him, but those who understand value what He has given and are always
quiet.

Lina Zāli Vruttī Brahmā-te Mīlāle. Jalā-ta Ātale Lavan Jaise.

Just as salt dissolved in water never comes out, the ego disappears. He melts it.

Lavana Jaise Punhā Jalā-če Bā-heri. Yeta Nāhi Khare Tyā-tunīyā.

Once in water, salt cannot return to solid form. Likewise, the one who understands Reality, is
melted. Thought has become thoughtless.

Tyā-sārīkhe Tumhi Jānā Sādhu-vruttī. Punhā Na Mīlati Māyā-jāla.

The Saint stays in Brahman. He never goes again in the illusion.

Māyā-jāla Tyā-nā Punhā Re Bādhe-na. Satya Satya Jānā Tukā Mhane.

He never bothers with worldly things. What I tell is the Truth, says Tuka.

12.

Swarga-loki-hūnī Āle He Abhanga. Dhādī-yele Sānga Tumhā-lāgi.

These abhangas have come from heaven, especially for you.

Nītya-neme Yāsi Pa-tha-tā Pra-tā-pe. Jala-tīla Pāpe Janmān-tarin-či.

By chanting these 12 abhangas, all sins from past births will be burned.

Tayā Māghe-pudhe Rakshi Nārāyana. Mandīlyā Nīrvāna Udi Ghali.

Narayana will protect you, now and in the future. When you need Him most, He protects you.

Buddhi-čā Pālata Nā-sela Kumati. Ho-īla Sad-bhakti Yene Panthe.

Your mind has been changed; wrong thoughts disappeared and He remains. Then you
understand real devotion.

Sad-bhakti Zālī-yā Sahaja Sākshātkāra. Ho-īla Uddhāra Pūrva-jānčā.

By real devotion you will get proof of realization. Your ancestors will be uplifted also.

Sādha-tila Yene Iha-para-loka. Satya Satya Bhāka Māzi Tumhā.

He acquires this world and the other world. This is the only truth and I[Tuka] vouch for it.

Parop-kārā-sāthi Sangita-le Devā. Prāsādīka Meva Grahan Kara.

This is spoken for the good of all beings. When they get this understanding, that’s the real
prasad.

44
Yene Bhava-vyathā Jā-īla Tumači. Sakhyā Vitthalā-či Āna Maja.
In this way worldly miseries go away for you and others also. On the oath of my Master I tell you.

Tāla Āni Kanthā Dhā-dīli Nīshāni. Ghyāre Ola-khoni Sajjana Ho.

These are my cymbals He has sent from heaven[=the Self]. You are That. You should chant my
name with love.

○ Māze Danda-vata Tumhā Sarva Lokā. Dehā-sahīta Tukā Vaikunthā-si.

I bow down to you all and tell you (that you can also get this). With his body, Tuka went to
Vaikuntha[Lord Krishna’s abode in heaven].

13.
Satya Satya Jānā Trīvā-čā Nema Hā. Anubhava Pahā Pado-padi.
You will experience that which I’ve said is the Truth. With every action, remember This.

Pado-padi Pahā Shri-mukha Čānga-le. Pratyaksha Pāūle Vīthobā-či.

In everybody, see HIS face. If you do this you’ll see Vithoba and how He is protecting you.

Vīthobā-či Bheti Harela Bā Čīntā. Tumhā-lāgi Ātā Sāngīta-le.

By meeting Him, your worries cease. For you, I have given this real understanding.

Sāngīta-le Khare Vīshvāčīyā Hītā. Abhanga Vāčīti Je Kā Nara.

For the good wish of the whole world, I give understanding to all. Whoever reads this and acts
accordingly is a real devotee and will have the experience.

Te Nara Pathani Jivanmukta Zāle. Punhā Nāhi Āle Sangsārā-si.

If you sing these abhangas you will be Realized in the body free from all bondage, never to
return to the world of birth/death again.

Sangsāra Udālā San-deha Phīta-lā. Pūrna Točī Zālā Tukā Mhane.

The cycle of birth and death vanishes. No doubts remain. You are complete; you’ve attained
Reality.

14.
Čāra Kotī Eka Lakshā-čā She-vata. Čau-tīsa Sahastra Spashta Sāngīta-le.
In 4 bodies there resides one Self covered by 34 (3 attributes + 4 bodies) coverings.

Sāngīta-le He Tukā Katho-nīyā Gelā. Bārā Abhangā-lā Sodū Nakā.

Tuka told all the stories. Don’t leave reciting these abhangas.

Sodū Nakā Tumhā Sāngīta-le Varma. Bhava-pāshi Karme Čuka-tila.

45
Don’t leave these abhangas! Then all the worldly actions will not be for you.

Čuka-ti Yātā-yāti Vithobā-či Āna. Karā He Pathana Jive-bhāve.

You won’t take birth again; this is my oath. But read these Abhangas again and again to
understand the real meaning. Make them more precious than your life.

Jive Bhāve Karītā Hoīla Darshana. Pratyaksha Saguna Tukā Mhane.

If you consider Him better than your life, you will have darshan of Vithoba in manifest form,
says Tuka.

15.

Veda-če Abhanga Kele Shrutī-para. Dvā-dasha Sahastra Sanhī-teče.

What is described in the Vedas and scriptures, was put in these twelve abhangas[12 means
1&2. 1=the unmanifest. 2=Ishwara and Maya, or Purusha and Prakriti].

Nī-ghanta Nī-rukta Ānī Bramha-sūtra. Avatāra Sahastra Upa-grantha.

Do’s and Don’ts of the Brahma Sutra, other texts and sub-texts, is said in my abhangas.

Abhanga He Kotī Bhaktī-para Zāle. Gnyāna-para Kele Tītu-keči.

My abhanga contains the secret about devotion as well as wisdom in praise of the Lord.

Pančā-hattar Laksha Vairāgya Var-nīle. Nāma Te Gāīle Tītu-keči.

Conquering Seventy-five[75 means 7&5. 7=five elements+mind+intellect; 5=five sense objects] are
aimed at understanding dispassion. And the same number is sung for the Lord.

Sātha Laksha Kelā Bodha Yā Jagāsi. Var-nīle Rupā-sī Tītu-keči.

Sixty are aimed at describing the form of God. With understanding, then 5 sense objects &
ignorance (equaling 6) becomes nothing but zero=60, repeatedly described in verses.

Tisa Laksha Keli Devā-sī Karunā. Karma-kānda Jānā Eka Laksha.

Thirty[30 means 3&0. 3(Sattva, Raja, Tama) should be zero=30] are aimed at my ritual to pray
to the Lord, and I should be without attributes. You are the only real aim to reach.

Dvā-dasha-sahastra Svātmānubhavi. Evam Jānā Sarva Sankhyā Aisi.

Twelve look to self-realization. Now I realize that You are only one(1) and my past assumption
that I existed as an individual(2) has dissolved in You[1+2=12].

Aise He Abhanga Zāle-se Bhū-tali. Pānča Antarāli Patrī-keči.

These abhangas have been conceived on earth and are as valuable as the 5 elements which
make up this earth.

Čau-tīsa Sahastra Laksh Eka Kotī Pānča. Sāngo-nīyā Sāča Gelā Tukā.
The Self resides in the house[body] which has thirty-four[34 means 3 attributes and 4 subtle
bodies], being veiled by 5 coverings. Once you understand, this is the only Truth, says Tuka.

46
[Vitthala Speaks to Tukaram]

Saguna He Brahma Vītthala-čī Bole. Aika Pā Vahīle Tukā-rāmā.
Saguna[the manifest] and nirguna[the unmanifest] are One. Whatever you see and perceive is
Me, Vitthala. This understanding came to Tukaram.

Tukā-rāma Tuvā Kele Je Abhanga. Karīti Je Kā Jagi Nītya Pātha.
Those who recite these abhangas everyday with understanding will become That.

Jagi Pātha Karītā Āvadi Sad-bhāve. Vīpattī Na Hoya Tyā Prānyā-si.
Those who recite with love and devotion will stay on the spiritual path. No troubles will remain
for them.

Prānyā-če Kalyāna Ho-īla Bā Pāhe. Bhāve Vāčītā He Nītya-neme.
If they read these abhangas with love they will be uplifted and always happy.

Neme Sankha-shtāsi Kari Akrā Pātha. Vīghna Tyān-če Spashta Dūra Hoya.
Whenever there is danger or problems be strong enough to recite these abhangas with a firm
mind and difficulties will be overcome.

Dūra Hoya Vīghna Vītthala Mhane Tukayā. Sheva-ti Nīja-thāyā Ne-īna Mi.
Vitthala says to Tukaram, “I will not only make them free of problems but I will take them to
my own place, to the original understanding that I am He.”

[Tukaram Speaks]

Mi Tava Anyā-yi Aprādhi. Karma-hina Matī-manda-buddhi.

I am a criminal. I have done many wrong things, taking body as true. My mind is so dull, I
am at fault. I have no actions but still I say, “I do.”

Tuja Myā Ātha-vīle Nāhi Kadhi. Vāče Krupā-nīdhi Māi-bāpā.

You are my mother and father, but I never remembered you and all you were doing.

Nāhi Aikī-le Gāī-le Gita. Dharī-li Lāja Sāndī-le Hīta.

I felt too embarrassed to chant Your name or talk about You. Due to fear of people, I could not
praise You and I lost what was good.

Nāva-de Purāna Baisa-le Santa. Keli Ba-hut Para-nīnda.

When Saints came, they told me but still I never cared to hear them. I spoke ill about them.

Kelā Nāhi Kara-vīla Nāhi. Paropa-kāra Nāhi Dayā Āli Pidītā Para.
I never helped anybody nor intended to, nor had mercy for those who needed help. Whatever I
did, was only for my body. I have committed sinful actions all these years. Please forgive me.

Hala-vū Kīti Guru-rānā (2). Nīdrā Kashi Ye-inā (2). Hala-vū Kīti Guru-rānā (2).
How long must I rock You? Why are You not sleeping? How long must I rock You?

Your body is like that of a child. My heart is Your bedroom and there I carry You.

Soham Gāyana Suručira (2). Gaī Madhura Swara Gānā (2).

All the time I say ‘So-ham’ to get You to sleep. How sweet is the taste of this. Sometimes I
also chant aloud Your name.

Dattātraya Karī Pada-dhyānā.

Datta says, my eyes are always on Your lotus feet.

Editor’s Note

This is an English transliteration text based on the actual bhajans sung in the Ranjit
Ashram of Shri Ramakant Maharaj in Nashik. Devotees are expected to participate in the
singing of at least the four basic bhajans(Kakad Arati, Morning Bhajan, Afternoon Bhajan
and Night Bhajan). But there are many other songs sung in the Night Bhajans, and on
Sundays and some special days. In Chapter 5, where most of these songs appear, they are
arranged in the same order in its Marathi sourcebook Paramārtha-mārga Pradip(2011).
However, the actual order of these songs are not the same as in this text. For example,
the later part(that is, after Bhav-parak) of a Sunday Night Bhajan could go on like this:
‘Karī Sukhe Shayana’(Shej-Āratis, 8) → ‘Asankhyāta Te’(Karuna Ashtaks, Sunday) → ‘Pālanā
Tuzā’(Pālanās, 4) → ‘Kāya Bhitī’(Abhai-dān) or ‘Sadguru Sarikha’ song → ‘Jyāhi Deūni’
(Sadguru-stavan) → ‘Chanda Manā’(Vīshesha Padas, 27).
English translation of the Marathi sentences are based on two English bhajan texts,
Pathway to Understanding(2001) and From Bondage to Liberation(2001). In the present
text, slight editing was done to enhance word-to-word correspondence. But in many places,
English translations are not available yet.
All the refrains in the bhajans are repeated in full sentences. They are shown by a star
mark(☆). Those parts when you take a turning movement where you stand while singing
bhajans, are shown by a round mark(○). And those parts beginning with a relatively
higher tone are shown by an upward arrow mark(↑). Some of the songs are referred to
their corresponding mp3 files on the Official Website(http://www.ramakantmaharaj.net).

On Marathi Pronunciation

1. This text distinguishes long vowels from short vowels. This difference in the length
of the vowels are often reflected in the actual bhajans. Long vowel ā is pronounced
as a clear [ɑ:] with a mouth opened bigger than a, which sometimes sounds like [ʌ].
2. In this text, č is pronounced differently from ch. And k and kh, p and ph, t and th also
are different. Note that č, k, p and t are pronounced somewhat like cch, kk, pp and tt.
And z is a simpler spelling of original jh, which is pronounced more softly than j.

91
3. In Marathi language, gnya-(originally, dnya-) is not pronounced as ‘g+nya-’. It is
pronounced much like gya- with a nasal sound in g.
4. In Marathi language, v is pronounced more or less like between ‘v’ and ‘w’. But
when it comes just in front or behind of a consonant, it is pronounced as ‘w’[u]. For
example, ‘Bhav-parak’ is pronounced as ‘Bhau-parak’, ‘Shav-vata’ as ‘Shau-vata’, and
‘Advait’ as ‘Adwait’. However, some familiar words still contain ‘w’ spelling, like
‘swarupa’, ‘Swami’, ‘Saraswati’.
