1. Simple Present Tense

Simple Present Tense is used to express

 A fact

o John is an English Teacher.

o Asia is the largest continent in the world.

 A repeated action

o Ramesh eats his breakfast in the canteen.

o Madu always forgets to switch of the lights.

 Scheduled actions

o Rock Fort express leaves the platform at 10:30 p.m. every day.

o The classes start at 8:30 a.m. on next Monday.

2. Simple Past Tense

Simple Past Tense is used to express

 Actions completed in the past

o Magesh saw the movie In Pursuit of Happiness last weekend.

o Last year, I visited the Seven Wonders of the World.

 A series of action completed in the past

o I finished my target, argued for incentives, and got a good sum of money.

o John locked the room at 10 a.m., reached the bus stand at 11.30 a.m. and received
his friend at 11.45 a.m.

 Actions that covered duration in the past

o Suresh and his family lived in Australia for the past 10 years.

o Sheela and Geetha talked over the phone for 2 hours.

3. Simple Future Tense

Simple Future Tense is used to express

 A future voluntary action (will)

o I will inform you once the order is ready.

o The committee will announce its decision next week.

 A plan (is going to)

o Kumar, with his family, is going to spend his vocation in Holland.

o Shanthi is going to apply for engineering council next year.

 A prediction

o Karthik will be the next student chairman of the college.

o The movie Planes is going to will min 5 Oscars next year.
