The question paper has four sections: Section A, Section B, Section C and Section D. There are
33 questions in the question paper.
Section–A has 14 questions of 1 mark each and 02 case-based questions. Section–B has
9 questions of 2 marks each. Section–C has 5 questions of 3 marks each and Section–
D has 3 questions of 5 marks each.
There is no overall choice. However, internal choices have been provided in some
questions. A student has to attempt only one of the alternatives in such questions.
Wherever necessary draw neat and labeled diagram.

Directions (Q. Nos. 11-14): Each of the following questions consists of two
statements, one is Assertion (A) and the other is Reason (R). Give answer:
(a) Both assertion and reason are true, and the reason is the correct explanation of
the assertion.
(b)Both assertion and reason are true, but the reason is not the correct explanation
of the assertion.
(c) Assertion is true but reason is false.
(d) Both assertion and reason are false.
11. Assertion (A): Predators are organisms which feed on other individuals.
Reason (R): Prey species have evolved various defences to lessen the impact of
predation.
Assertion (A): Baculoviruses control growth of many insects and arthropods.
Reason (R): Lady bird and Trichoderma are use as biocontrol agents.
Or
(iv) Read the following given statements and mark the option that are correct
statements.

16. Read the following and answer any four questions from 16 (i) to 16 (v) given
below:
Plasmodium, a tiny protozoan is responsible for malaria disease. Different species
of Plasmodium (P. vivax, P. malaria, P. falciparum) are responsible for different
types of malaria. If these, malignant malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum is
the most serious one and can even be fatal. Plasmodium enters the human body as
sporozoites (infectious form) through the bite of infected female Anopheles
mosquito. The parasites initially multiply within the liver cells and then attack the
red blood cells (RBCs) resulting in their rupture. The rupture of RBCs is associated
with release of a toxic substance, haemozoin, which is responsible for the chill and
high fever recurring every three to four days. When a female Anopheles mosquito
bites an infected person, these parasites enter the mosquito’s body and undergo
further development. The parasites multiply within them to form sporozoites that
are stored in their salivary glands. When these mosquitoes bite a human, the
sporozoites are introduced into his/ her body, thereby initiating the events
mentioned above. It is interesting to note that the malarial parasite requires two
hosts – human and mosquitoes – to complete its life cycle. The female Anopheles
mosquito is the vector (transmitting agent) too.
18. What does amniocentesis test? On what basis does it work? Is it justified to put a
statutory ban on this process? Give reason.
19. Explain pleiotropy with the help of an example.

which is a desirable approach in- situ or ex-situ? Justify your answer and explain the
difference between the two approaches.
