1. Why computer networking is important?

 To share resources among computers via connecting them.

2. What makes a connection a broadband connection?

 The term broadband commonly refers to high-speed Internet access

that is always on and faster than the traditional dial-up access.
 In general, broadband refers to telecommunication in which a wide
band of frequencies is available to transmit information

Broadband includes several high-speed transmission technologies such

as:

Cable Modem
Fiber
Wireless
Satellite

3. What is an LAN?

 A local area network (LAN) is a group of computers and associated

devices that share a common communications line or wireless link to
a server.
 A local area network may serve as few as two or three users (for
example, in a small-office network) or several hundred users in a
larger office. LAN networking comprises cables, switches, routers and
other components.
 A local area network (LAN) supplies networking capability to a group
of computers in close proximity to each other, like in an office
building, school, or home.
 LANs are usually built to enable the sharing of resources and services
like files, printers, games, applications, email, or internet access.

4. What is an MAN?

 It refers to Metropolitan-area network

 A metropolitan area network (MAN) is a network that interconnects
users with computer resources in a geographic area or region larger
than that covered by even a large local area network (LAN) but
smaller than the area covered by a wide area network (WAN).
 The term is applied to the interconnection of networks in a city into a
single larger network (which may then also offer efficient connection
to a wide area network). The latter usage is also sometimes referred to
as a campus network.
Community network
Municipal wireless network
Wireless community network

5. What is an WAN?

 A WAN (wide area network) is a communications network that spans

a large geographic area such as: across cities, states, or countries.
They can be private to connect parts of a business or they can be more
public to connect smaller networks together.

6. What is the difference between an intranet and an extranet?

 An intranet is a network where employees can create content,

communicate, collaborate, get stuff done, and develop the company
culture.
 An extranet is like an intranet, but also provides controlled access to
authorized customers, vendors, partners, or others outside the
company.
