INTRODUCTION

This group project was assigned to test ourselves in a trading platform according to
Bursa Marketplace system. It is a competition-based platform created by our dearest
lecturer, Madam Salwani Binti Affandi to see whether the participants able to create positive
portfolio percentage change.

Positive portfolio percentage change comes from transactions mainly from higher
selling prices than buying prices. The process of buying the stocks involves setting of how
much the price able to purchase and set the number of units, usually in the form of lots (one
lot = 100 units). When the opportunity of selling arrives, it depends on the market action that
determines our picked stocks have increased or decreased in price.

There are many ways to analyse stocks, mainly in two ways, namely Fundamental
Analysis and Technical Analysis. Fundamental Analysis comprises of company’s internal
factor such as financial health and can be refer to their annual reports. Technical Analysis
include price charts primarily referring to their movements of the price chart according to its
various tools such as indicators, trendline, volume and many more.

Finally, this project has been concluded on how we managed to buy and sell the
stocks in the form of analysis and the description of our experience in participating this
trading simulation.

1.0 SUMMARY OF PORTFOLIO

This diagram shows the summary portfolio of our group, ‘Faris and the 4A Wisers’ in
the Dungun Endgame competition. Our group faced portfolio percentage change loss (-
3.22%) at the end of this competition.

It was due to various reasons which will be explained further in this report. It is noted
that we did not complete buy and sell transactions of two companies. The two companies
are Petron Malaysia Refining & Marketing Berhad and Sapura Energy Berhad. All the trading
transactions were charged with the commission of RM 0.42.

Our group has been ranked 19th place in this competition with the cash balance
availability of RM 70,486.58. The competition we have participated was one month started
from beginning of October until the end of October 2019.

2.0 STOCK ANALYSIS
2.1 EKOVEST BERHAD

Sell @ RM 0.81

Purchase @ RM 0.78

Ekovest Berhad is a company that engages in civil engineering and building works in
Malaysia. It also provides project management services for construction works, as well as
invests in properties. In addition, the company engages in the design, construction, and
maintenance of a natural institute for natural products vaccines and biology.

At 8th October 2019, we have decided to invest in this stock with the price of RM 0.78
with the number of 10,000 units (100 lots). The reason why we have purchase because we
have examined its volume momentum indicator where it has shown decrease in selling
action and the beginning of buying action during that time. The total of this purchase was RM
7,800.00.

At 13th October 2019, it is time for us to sell this stock. This is because we have
detected that there is no longer buying action from the investors according to the volume
indicator. We have managed to sell it with the price of RM 0.81 with all of units sold. It is
totalled at RM 8,100. It is calculated that profit has been achieved roughly at RM 300.00 not
including the commission charge of RM 0.42.

2.2 HENGYUEN REFINING COMPANY BERHAD

Purchase @ RM 4.56
Sell @ RM 4.45

Previously known as Shell Refining Company (Federation of Malaya) Berhad, it is

involved in the refining and manufacture of petroleum products in Malaysia. It offers its
products to power, food, general manufacturing, steel, automotive manufacturing, marine,
aviation, and transportation industries, as well as motorists and home applications.

At 8th October 2019, we have executed lately in buying this stock with the price of RM
4.56. We have purchased 1,000 units (10 lots). On the contrary, we have detected that this
stock price will rise during that time due to its buy action beginning of volume momentum
indicator. Unfortunately, we purchased it too late when the price has reached its peak. The
total purchase price was RM 4,560.00.

At 13th October 2019, we have made two selling transactions based on different
number of stocks. Firstly, we have sold 900 units at RM 4.45. This is because we need to
apply stop-loss method to prevent from further losses. Secondly, we have sold the rest of the
stocks at the same price because we were panic selling during the date. It is totalled at RM
4,450.00. It is calculated that loss has been faced at -RM 110.00 without the commission
charge of RM 0.42.

3.0 CONCLUSION

All in all, it was a good experience for us to participate in this one-month competition

held by our lecturer. We have discovered of how difficult the market was, solely on predicting

the stocks’ price movement in the future.

We have analysed the stocks mainly on one method, which is volume indicator

based on Technical Analysis. We have learned that there are more ways we could improve

ourselves in this trading platform which is technical indicators. For instance, Moving

Average, Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD), Relative Strength Index and

Stochastic. Other than that, we could also learn price patterns such as continuous pattern

and reversal pattern.

`Besides that, Fundamental Analysis is a key factor too in successfully gain profit in
trading due to analysing on stock’s internal factor performance like financial health.
Therefore, it is learned that we need to implement both analysis before start trading.

Lastly, as potential investors, we need to learn on how to control our emotions in

financial market. With disrupted emotions, we tend to create mistakes in trading. Thus, it is
best to overcome our emotion problems in the financial market.
