About iPASOLINK VR 1-1

1. About iPASOLINK VR

1.1 Overview

The iPASOLINK VR delivers enhanced wireless signal processing performance. By

combining with the latest modulations method, it will provide high-speed and high-
capacity wireless transmission that supports the next-generation mobile
communications such as LTE-Advanced. In addition to a wireless interface, it is also
equipped with 10 gigabit optical communication interface. This makes the
iPASOLINK VR an ideal solution for constructing seamless transmission networks
that combine optical fibers with wireless connections.

In response to increasing needs for sharing single mobile network infrastructures

among multiple telecom operators, the iPASOLINK VR provides Hierarchical QoS
(H-QoS) function. It paves the way for the simultaneous operation of mobile
networks owned by multiple telecom operators with different service levels on a
single transmission network.

In addition, the new product incorporates NEC's newly developed SDN based
network automation and optimization tool called BRM 1. Optimizing the traffic flow
over radio transmission network, it achieves network operation with a high level of
efficiency and reliability, while enhancing end user's quality of experience (QoE).

Furthermore, the iPASOLINK VR is compatible with existing iPASOLINK models.

Existing products can be smoothly upgraded by adding a card to the in-door unit
(IDU), making it possible for telecom operators to control investment in network
infrastructure.

1. Backhaul Resource Manager (BRM), which is network optimization tool for centralized management and control in
mobile backhaul network.

SYSTEM CONFIGURATION 2-1

2. SYSTEM CONFIGURATION

2.1 General

iPASOLINK VR is the equipment designed to converge the high density nodal

applications, such as the cross-connections of 12 links, aggregation/distribution of
multiple-links ring nodes and the large capacity D/I repeater applications, etc.,
supporting the versatile transportations of both native TDM and native Ethernet
traffics, as well as the link and each transportation level’s independent ring
protections.

iPASOLINK VR provides up to 620 Mbps transmission capacity per radio link and
advanced modulation scheme operating in 6, 7, 8. 10, 11, 13, 15, 18, 23, 26, 28, 32,
38, or 42 GHz band. Furthermore, iPASOLINK VR is available to support the high-
speed interfaces, such as CWDM for converged mobile and fixed broadband.

The iPASOLINK VR consists of the antennas, Outdoor Units (ODU) and the 19-inch
3U size Indoor Unit (IDU), owing its high performance and reliability in a small form
factor to NEC’s rigid TQC activities and vast experience in the wired and wireless
communication fields.

The iPASOLINK VR provides fourteen front accessible universal-card slots that

accommodate a wide range of interface modules satisfying various D/I and/or
topology requirements. The iPASOLINK VR can configure up to twelve 1+0, six 1+1
twin-path, hot standby and diversity radio link arrangements.

In addition, using NEC’s most advanced cross polarization interface canceling

techniques, transmission capacity of up to 1240 Mbps is supported utilizing the same
radio frequency channel.

The iPASOLINK VR enables these without any header suppression/compression of

packet data.
