You are on page 1of 1

This project is designed to allow you to demonstrate what you learned throughout the year in trigonometry.

You will be graded on creativity, accuracy and your ability to follow directions. The value of each item is
indicated in the parenthesis. All of the work must be submitted in booklet form and in the order listed below,
with this rubric attached at the end. This portfolio will be due on Wednesday, May 26, 2010.

1. __________ COVER (4 points)

The cover should be decorative with a drawing incorporating any topic you have learned this year. You
do not have to confine yourself to trig. Please include your name and mods.

2. __________ CREATIVE DRAWINGS (30 points)

Create drawings using the six trig functions (sin, cos, tan, csc, sec and cot). They must represent
something realistic and they cannot be computer generated. You must include the x- and y-axes in your
drawings, though you can draw them very lightly so that it doesn’t interfere with your creativity. You may
not have more than one set of axes on any given drawing. You can include all 6 functions in one
drawing or do one or more functions per drawing. One cycle of each must be drawn. Please include the
equation for each graph (it can be the parent function or any transformation of the parent functions) and
include the appropriate units on the x- and y-axes. Work can be done on graph paper or on any paper
as long as the axes are included. Feel free to add color.

3. __________ CREATIVE WRITING (10 points)

Word problems are an intricate part of the study of mathematics. You have been hired to help write a
textbook on trigonometry that will capture the imagination of teenagers. Choose any 2 topics from the
entire trigonometry unit and write 2 word problems. Please include a diagram and a solution to each.

4. __________ PICK A PROBLEM (10 points)

Complete one of the attached problems, showing all formulas and work. Include an explanation of your
work. You may work with others, but keep in mind that this should be your own solution and should not
look identical to anyone else’s. Include the name(s) of anyone you worked with.

5. __________ GOOD WORK/BAD WORK (8 points)

Select your best chapter test or quest and your worst chapter test or quest from the whole year (50
points or more). Explain the reason for your success and failure.

6. __________ REFLECTION PAGE (5 points)

Express your feelings about the first three marking periods in Algebra II/Trig. How do you feel about
your work, your grades, your attitude and your class? What was your most positive experience in class
this year? What, if anything, would you do to improve this class? What plans or goals do you have for
yourself for the rest of the year and for next year?

7. __________ NEATNESS AND FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS (3 points)
