Passage 1
AUSTRALIANS NAMED WORLD’S FITTEST TRAVELERS
Vacations are seen by most as a time to take a break from the hustle
and bustle of regular life, but that isn’t the case for everybody. Especially
those who consider themselves to be health conscious travelers.
According to a poll conducted by Expedia and Google Consumer
5 Surveys, the most fitness-forward travelers are Australians, while the French
are the most likely to not bother keeping up with their fitness regime while on
vacation.
Fifty-five percent of Australians qualified exercise as “very or
somewhat important” while traveling, and were followed close behind by
10 Americans and Canadians, with 53 percent and 51 percent, respectively.
0
The most popular form of exercise mentioned was walking, though
those from countries like France and Spain are more likely to say that they
“don’t work out while they travel”.
More than 7,000 people in seven countries – Australia, Canada, France,

Passage 2
DATA MATTERS FOR DEVELOPMENT, DEMOCRATIZATION

Data drives everything. It’s being produced at astronomical speed. We

create 2.5 quintillion bytes of data daily — images, video, tweets and GPS
signals. Since the smartphone revolution, 90 percent of data today has been
created in the last two years.
5 Traditional ways of gathering data is slowing us down. Surveys are
expensive and focus groups don’t capture enough information we need for a
population as vast and diverse as Indonesia’s. Our phones, however, can order
an ojek (motorcycle taxi), a meal and even a massage within 15 minutes — and
they can deliver real-time data about people’s daily experiences. Indonesia’s
10 poorest regions are turning to social media platforms and mobile technology to
mine data so the government can improve basic services.
Serious challenges face people in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), a
province comprising of Lombok and Sumbawa Islands. Forty-eight percent of
children under five years old are stunted due to chronic undernutrition. Many
15 maternal deaths occur each year. The government wants change.
Social media and mobile technology is growing faster than human
development in Indonesia. But it can and should be harnessed as a powerful
resource. It’s where millions of Indonesians express opinions relevant to the
nation’s development daily. It is a goldmine of information, particularly for
20 provincial government, allowing them to improve public services for better
lives.
Through public and private partnerships, there is enormous potential for
government to integrate knowledge gained from nowcasting and advanced
social media analytics. Indonesia has committed to 17 Sustainable
Development Goals (SDG) to achieve by 2030 to end extreme poverty, tackle
25 climate change and reduce inequality. The prosperity of Indonesia’s most
remote areas is critical for the nation to achieve them all. The answer exists in
data.

Passage 3
HOW HAPPY INDONESIANS, REALLY?

For the first time in history, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) issued
late on Wednesday a survey that measured the level of happiness among
Indonesians. The timing of the survey, which was conducted last year, could not
have come at a worse time, as unemployment was high and poverty soared
5 following the subsidized fuel price hike. Nonetheless, the outcome was
somewhat surprising; Indonesians, in general, are indeed 'happy', according to
the BPS.
Indonesia scored 65.11 percent on a scale of 100 on the BPS' 'Happiness
Index', which measures happiness in relation to the growing level of equality in
the country.
10 The index score had been divided into four groups, which ranged from
unhappy (0-25 percent), not so happy (25-50 percent), happy (50-75 percent)
and very happy (more than 75 percent), with Indonesia falling under the third
category.
Five components were taken into consideration income; work status;
15 assets; harmony in the family; security and environment. Additionally, the
issues of education and income worried Indonesians the most, evidenced by
lower scores, however, in terms of happy families, the scores were on the
higher end of the scale.
That the survey had been developed to complement previous data
20 regarding development.'The happiness index is important because the level of
happiness cannot be strictly gauged based on the performance of the economy.
The economy grew by 5.78 percent last year, lower than 6.23 percent
recorded in 2012 and 6.5 percent in 2011, BPS data revealed. According to the
25 BPS, the number of poor people in September last year rose to 11.47 percent,
or 28.5 million from 11.37 percent, or 28.07 million. While the richest were
getting rich quicker than the poorest of the poor, this did not necessarily
guarantee the happiness of the wealthier group.

C. stretched
D. bounded
E. restricted

57. The phrase gauged in line 21 could best be replaced by _______.

A. described
B. evaluated
C. achieved
D. presented
E. depicted

58. The statement “could not have come at a worse time” in paragraph 1 implies
that _______.
A. the timing of survey was not correct.
B. the survey was performed at the worst period
C. the survey was conducted for measuring unemployment
D. the survey should have been delayed because of bad economic condition
E. the survey must be performed every year

59. Which of the following sentences is not true according to the passage?
A. The happiness index increae due to the increasing number of poor people.
B. The happiness is not only for the wealthy citizens.
C. Both the richest and the poorest get wealthier.
D. Indonesians are frightened about their education and income.
E. The survey was done when the economic condition is low.

according to Happiness Index?
