INTRODUCTION

work.
a. The best proclaimer of the gospel was Paul himself
b. The NT is the best textbook for mission work: the apostle Paul is the leading
figure.
2. Acts 20:20 is a good text to study his missionary work.
a. The way in which he stablished the church: he found disciples that had not been
baptized properly.
b. He work many miracles in Ephesus and this made the believers to burn all their
“magic” books.
3. Paul had a simple approach to mission work: Preach Christ and Him crucified publicly
and house to house
a. We cannot improve the topic or the approach.
b. Rom. 1:16: the gospel is the power of God to salvation.
c. In Ephesus he preached in the synagogue and then in the school of Tyranus
during 2 years.
d. The city had the great temple of Diana. By preaching the Christ the business of
the temple was damaged and this resulted in a protest and a riot against Paul.
e. Paul’s method was not just to establish the congregation but to appoint elders: in
Miletus he called these elders.
DISCUSSION
I. He reminded them of his work among them
A. He worked humbly among them with tears.
B. Faced opposition.
II. He did not shun to declare all the counsel of God.
A. A half gospel is not going to save.
B. A preacher can speak only the Bible but not to preach the whole gospel.
III. Preaching publicly is not enough.
IV. He warned the elders about false teaching
A. 1 Tim 4:1; 2 Thess. 2:1-12;
B. They had to take care of themselves. They must be able to teach and defend the
doctrine.
V. Paul is leaving them.
A. A missionary must, at some point, leave the work to go into other fields.
B. As parents with their children
CONCLUSION
1Paul is the ideal missionary:
a. Established congregations
b. Established eldership
2. He was a missionary that we should imitate who taught publicly and from house to
house.
