I. INTRODUCTION

Immersions prepare students for the real world by training them how to work in a company
and eventually excel in a specific career. The school needs to ensure that its students gain various
competencies that would have these future professionals ready for employment.

The Work Immersion component of the k to 12 Basic Education Program aims to provide
Senior High School (SHS) students with opportunities to become familiar with the workplace for
employment simulation and to apply their competence in areas of specialization in authentic work
environments necessary in preparing them for higher education.

Work immersion is a key feature in the Senior High School curriculum and refers to the part
of that consists of 80 hours of hands-on experience or work simulation which Grade 12 students will
undergo to expose them to the actual work setting and to enrich the competencies provided by the
school.

Work Immersion is a part of the Senior High School (Grade 11 at 12) Curriculum that has 80
hours and includes actual works or “hands-on” experience for enhancing the students skill and
capabilities. It could be a total comparison for a real job or ‘simulated’.

With the four exits envisioned for SHS graduates namely, higher education, entrepreneurship,
employment or middle-level skills development. The first batch of Grade 12 learners are expected to
become full-fledged contributors to the social development and nation-building. Work immersion is a
key subject under the SHS curriculum that is conducted in different ways and time frame as needed
by SHS learners.

The said learning experience that the students can get from it will surely enable and help
students as they familiarize themselves with the workplace stimulation and apply their competencies
in their particular areas. The completion of work immersion is a prerequisite to graduation under the
K-12 program. It aims to hone globally competitive citizens, with its specialized curriculum, gearing
Filipino students for further studies, employment or entrepreneurship.

Experience is considered to be one of life’s greatest teachers. As trainees, we can use it as a

motivation as we gain expertise in our respective fields. This experience will surely help us not only
for our life as students but also our future job as professional employees of the country.

During my work immersion experience at Business Permits and Licensing Department

(BPLD), I learned that hard work and diligence have a moral benefit and an inherent ability, virtue or
value to strengthen character and individual abilities. It is about prioritizing work and putting it in the
center of life. Social ingrainment of this value is considered to enhance character through hard work
that is respective to an individual’s field of work.

To conclude my stand, work immersion is a solid matter in terms of enhancing the learners
skills and discipline not only for self improvement but also for the betterment of his/her future
company that is because the student will be able to asses himself early inside the company that is
because of the student will be able to asses himself early inside the company during the immersion
period and will be used to it.

The importance of work immersion must be seen as vital point of giving students a venue to
improve themselves through experiencing real stuff firsthand. It helps students to acquire knowledge
and experience that can help them grow as professional individuals.

In the Philippines, youth unemployment hampers meaningful economic development. The

sector’s lack of knowledge, skills, and work experience puts them at a disadvantage. One way to
address this is through the Department of Education’s Senior High School (SHS) program, ushered
by the K-12 education reform. One of its components, the work immersion program, provides
students “real workplace” experience, giving students a set of technical-vocational and livelihood
skills that can help them make more informed career choices and improve their employment
prospects.

This story tells how the Coalitions for Change (CfC) program collaboratively worked with
national and local governments and industries to address policy gaps in the SHS Work Immersion
program. So far, the intervention is working well with a high passing rate in National Certification for
tourism-related specializations and some graduates joining the workforce right after graduation.
II. WORK IMMERSION OBJECTIVES AND LEARNING GOALS.

Work Immersion is one of the course requirements for graduation. A Senior High School
student has to undergo Work Immersion in an industry that directly relates to the student’s
postsecondary goal. Through Work Immersion, the students are exposed to and become familiar with
work-related environment related to their field of specialization to enhance their competence.
Specifically, the students are able to: (i) gain relevant and practical industrial skills under the
guidance of industry experts and workers;(ii) appreciate the importance and application of the
principles and theories taught in school; (iii) enhance their technical knowledge and skills;
(iv) enrich their skills in communications and human relations; and (v) develop good work habits,
attitudes, appreciation, and respect for work. These prepare them to meet the needs and challenges of
employment or higher education after graduation.

The K-12 Basic Education programs’ purpose is to discover, improve and develop the
learners Learning Competencies and to guide the learners to pursue their chosen career. And to
develop a better nation. The work immersion is under the K to 12 curriculums. It gives opportunities
to the learners:

1. To develop a better communication.

2. To adapt a new environment.
3. To improve, develop, and apply their competencies.
4. To prepare them for employment.

Learners are distributed in different establishments, offices and Laboratories as their work
place for their work immersion/actual job. Through company’s partnership, they are expected to help
the learners in their work immersion, to give them the opportunities, to have or experience perform
actual job, for new learning’s. To make the learners:

1. Improve their knowledge and skills to be more productive.

2. To develop a good communication and good relationship towards others.
3. To build up work ethics, attitudes, and the value of works.

During the work immersion in Senior High School, the learners develop a good social
interaction, that will help them to build-up and maintain a good relationship towards others, work
immersion gives them a chance to apply what they have learned about their specialization for their
improvement and development of their skill and to increase their knowledge and for the preparation
of employment, for proceeding in the higher education. The objectives written above was guided by
policy to:
1. Create an adaptable work immersion.
2. Give an optional work immersion.
3. Provide / give a safe and comfortable work place.

One of the goals of the K to 12 Basic Education Program is to develop in learners the
competencies, work ethic, and values relevant to pursuing further education and/or joining the world
of work. To achieve greater congruence between basic education and the nation’s development
targets, Work Immersion, a required subject, has been incorporated into curriculum. This subject will
provide learners with opportunities:

1. To become familiar with the work place;

2. For employment simulation; and
3. To apply their competencies in areas of specialization/applied subjects in authentic work
environments.

Work immersion will help develop among the learners life and career skills, and will prepare
them to make decisions on post secondary education or employment. Through partnership building,
Department of Education (DepEd) hopes that the Partner Institutions will provide learners with work
immersion opportunities, workplace or hands-on experience, and additional learning resources. It
aims to make the learners.

1. appreciate the importance and application of the principles and theories learned in school;

2. enhance their technical knowledge and skills;

3. enrich their skills in communications and human relations; and

4. develop good work habits, attitudes, appreciation and respect for work.
III. PERSONAL ASSESMENT OF LEARNING FROM THE COMPANY

The purpose of self-assessment is to help the individual know the extent of his abilities and to
improve upon them without the need of a performance appraiser. It involves the use of questions such
as; what are my strengths; what are the obstacles, etc.

A. Cognitive / Intellectual Learning – I typically develop:

1. greater cognitive flexibility

2. demonstrating increased attention control
3. better memory
4. and superior problem solving skills as well as an enhanced understanding of their primary
language.

B. Affective or Emotional Learning is our ability to read, understand, and manage our
own emotions and the emotions of others, I learned:

1. The Importance of Having a Positive Attitude

2. Keeping my Focus
3. Doing my Best
4. Responding to Guidance or Direction
5. Controlling my Emotions
6. Being Flexible

C. Psychomotor/ skills learning – I develop somehow:

1. My typing skills
2. Improve my skills in using excel
3. I learned how to respond quick
4. Operate a computer
5. Printing skills
6. Operate type writer
7. Improve my writing skills
IV. AREAS TO IMPROVE

Personal and professional development help ward off negative thoughts that prevent us from
taking steps towards self-improvement. areas of improvement' means the improvement is currently on
going or being improved. while 'areas for improvement' nothing has been done yet. We often sit back
and wait for an annual performance review to identify areas we need to improve. Position yourself to
be accountable, improve your skill set, and continually learn by setting personal benchmarks and
reviewing them regularly. Learning leads to a better quality of life, boosts confidence and personal
development, and influences our life in a positive way. Here are ways you can take control improve
your reputation and performance at work, and reach new skill levels and professional development:

A. For the trainee (about self)

1. Organize & Prioritize

Create a daily schedule and follow it. Identify the top three or four critical projects that need
to be completed. Ensure your task list is manageable, adds value, and benefits your firm.

2. Avoid Distractions
Did you know that focus is a fundamental quality of productive people? Our brains are wired
to work best when we focus on a single task. Practice staying focused and strive to complete
one task before diving into another.

3. Be a Great Finisher
Many of us are great starters but we fall short on finishing.

4. Set Milestones
The road to completing a big project may seem overwhelming. Don’t let that stop you from
taking time to celebrate interim achievement.

5. Simply Listen
Listening is vital to effective communication. Spend time thinking about how you listen. Do
you interrupt others? Mature listening skills lead to increased productivity with fewer
mistakes, innovative growth, and higher client satisfaction rates.

6. Research
Take time to research. Don’t waste other’s time; do your homework before taking on a new
task. You’ll be better prepared to present strategies to reach each objective.
8. Ask Questions
Constantly challenge yourself by asking, “Is there a more effective way to achieve the same
results?” Brainstorm to determine if you are working as efficiently as possible. Always
believe that things can be improved.

9. Acknowledge Others
Help others excel, express gratitude, and give credit where credit is due. You’ll be surprised
how much encouragement and motivation a simple, “Great job!” provides. Your team is
bound to grow and rise together.

10. Practice Humility

Avoid self-promotion and practice humility. Encourage team members and hold a high
respect for their unique skill set and contributions to success.

There’s a lot to improve specially into my partners and my co-workers

B. For the work immersion partner company

1. Initiative
take the initiative. Begin a task or plan of action

2. Identify their strengths and weaknesses.

What are you good at? What do you do well? Your partner should complement you. If you
focus on seeking out people who have different skill sets from yours, you’ll be stronger
together than you are apart.

3. Discuss your long-term goals upfront.

Are they similar? Are they compatible? You might disagree about how to get there, but you
and your partner should share the same vision.

4. Communicate regularly.
This piece of advice seems obvious, but it’s so important.

5. Respect one another.

Like I said, we all have strengths and weaknesses. Don’t exploit or take advantage of your
partner’s weaknesses just because you can. It’s not worth it.

6. Put things in writing.

Having an operating agreement in place will help define your mission.

8. Pick up the phone.

Using email to communicate about important issues
9. Support one another.
Doing what is right to your partners and doing what you can and giving the best effort to
support and to love.

Action Plan to Improve Work Immersion Program

C. For the work immersion program

1. To orient the Senior High School students about the guidelines of Work Immersion
Program
So that we can know what we are totally going to do.

2. To aware the Senior High School students about the problems they may encounter on their
Work Immersion Program.

3. To aware the Senior High School students about the importance of Work Immersion
Program

4. consent of their parents.

5. school must ensure that all the venues for learning are safe for the learners

6. The maximum number of hours has been also a problem to students.

I. RECOMMENDATIONS

A work immersion is one requirement for some courses before graduation. It can help student
to be prepared and to foresee what he or she will be doing in his or her chosen field of career. Here
are some recommendations about work immersion:

This work immersion (or study) is relevant and is recommended to students with the same
strand or course as we are. This might help you improve your work immersion planning and
execution in the future.

This work immersion (or study) is relevant and is recommended to institutions so that they
can analyze the output and so that they can further advance and improve and fund this kind of
projects for its students.

Work immersion is the counter part of On the job training (OJT) of college which students in
senior high school apply all the knowledge they gain from their past lessons.

The importance of work immersion is that it can help students in senior high school to
develop their skills in their strands, they can also practice or it can give them ideas about their work in
the future.

Work immersion is an important part in senior high schools as they will experience how and
what they will do on their jobs soon.

It improves and builds new skills. Immersions will have students gain new skill sets and
improve their existing capabilities. It is also through immersion that students get to discover
themselves and jumpstart their professional growth.

Students become good team players. A person who works well with others can go places.
Students who know this early on are better able to improve their communication skills and can be an
asset to the team in building projects.

Students become financially aware at an early age. By being exposed to the daily operations
of a real work environment, students learn how to think like an adult, manage their finances
effectively, and be exposed to acquiring other related skills such as budgeting and marketing.
Students become goal-driven. Students have goals. Immersion trains them how to achieve
these goals by giving them an opportunity to work with and be supervised by professionals and highly
creative people. These people can inspire students to discover their capabilities.

Work Immersion will help develop among the learners life and career skills, and will prepare
them to make decisions on postsecondary education or employment. Through partnership building,
DepEd hopes that the parter Institutions will provide learners with work opportunities work place or
hands-on experience, and additional learning resources

attitudes, appreciation and respect for work.

The completion of work immersion is a prerequisite to graduation under the K-12 program.
It aims to hone globally competitive citizens, with its specialized curriculum, gearing Filipino
students for further studies, employment or entrepreneurship. Experience is considered to be one of
life’s greatest teachers. As trainees, we can use it as a motivation as we gain expertise in our
respective fields. This experience will surely help us not only for our life as students but also our
future job as professional employees of the country.

consider it to be vital for achieving goals, that it gives strength to their orientation and the
right mindset. People who possess a strong work ethic embody certain principles that guide their
work behavior, leading them to produce high-quality work consistently and the output motivates them
to stay on track. A good work ethic fuels an individual's needs and goals, it is related to the initiative
by a person for the objectives. It is considered as a source of Self respect, satisfaction, and fulfillment.

Goal-oriented actions: it is not about making plans or the next logical steps; it's about getting
things done so that the work invested wouldn't be counter-productive.

Prioritized focus: focusing on qualitative activities that a person is capable and in areas where
they can make a difference or a high impact based on objectives.

Being available and reliable: spending time on the work and building oneself up for the task.
Conscientiousness: a desire to do a task well, being vigilant and organized. Creating a rewarding
routine/system: Engaging in tasks that provide strength and energy which can be transferred to your
ultimate goals, creating a habit and a habitat for success. Embracing positivism: shape a problem with
the statement "good, (action) (problem)", e.g. "I'm tired and it is time for a workout" leads to "Good.
Workout tired".
