ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENTS

ACTIVITY 1. REFLECTIVE ESSAY

Direction: Read the questions below carefully and write your answer on the space provided.

1. During this COVID19 pandemic, what do you think is the importance of physical activities in
your own personal life?

As we face the unprecedented threat of COVID-19, our life, as we know it, is disrupted.
We have to adjust to a new way of living, or the so-called “new normal”. A lot of aspects in our
life are affected, including the physical activities that we usually do before the pandemic. But
this is not a reason to stop being physically active.
Keeping our body healthy and physically fit is the importance of physical activities
especially in this pandemic situation. Since we cannot go to gym or jog around like the usual,
we should still be active by doing exercises at home. We can maintain our health and fitness
by simply doing some home-based exercises, or by doing some household chores that will
help us burn calories and give us good sweat. If we do this regularly, it will benefit not just our
physical health but also our mental health. When we are constantly physically active, our
body’s system works better. It improves different aspects of our physical fitness like bone and
muscle strength, flexibility, endurance and more. It keeps us from different risks such as,
cardiovascular diseases, cancers, stroke and even the COVID-19. And aside from these
physical health related benefits, doing some physical activities also improves our mental
health, reducing the risks of depression, which is crucial to improve our overall well-being.
It is very important to maintain our health and fitness especially during this COVID-19
situation. Staying physically fit increases our immune function, that is very essential for fighting
off the threats of the virus, and other diseases. The pandemic shouldn’t hinder us from being
physically active. Instead, it should motivate us to improve our health and well-being for a
better living.

2. What are the ways that you are doing in order to cope effectively in this pandemic situation?
Explain your answer.

Taking care of our physical and mental health is important especially in this situation.
The threats of COVID-19 attacks not only our health, but our overall well-being. As for me, in
order to cope effectively in this pandemic situation, I’ve been practicing a few strategies to
maintain a good mental, emotional and physical health, and it actually helped me a lot.
Since the beginning of quarantine, I’ve been motivated to do some home-based
workouts. At first, my goal is only to achieve abdominal muscles. But as I was enjoying it
regularly, I realized that doing this workout is a good way to improve my overall well-being. It
didn’t just help me physically, but it also helped me mentally as it increases my energy,
positive mood and self-esteem, and it reduces my stress and anxiety. Whenever I start my
day with doing some physical activities, I feel very productive throughout the day. And during
my leisure time, or after I do some household chores, I read some books or watch some
movies with my family. Doing both leisure time activities and physical activities is actually
cathartic to me. My mind becomes off from negative thoughts and energy, and it helps me
cope up with depression.
Also, I never forget to stay in touch with my friends, relatives or loved ones. It is a
good way to also keep our relationships healthy, especially now that physical contacts are
limited. Plus, we never know, maybe they are struggling with something during the
quarantine and they needed someone like us. Initiating the communication and reaching out
to them will be a big help. And of course, aside from exercising and leisure activities, I do
some meditating and devotional prayer as my “me time”. It is actually a good way to release
negativities and keep our minds at ease. Doing devotions keep us spiritually healthy and it
brings us closer to God, since we can’t go out to attend church masses.
I admit that it this whole pandemic situation is a bit hard. It really affected my overall
well-being and it is hard to manage it at first. But if you are really willing to achieve a healthy
living, no virus can hinder you from that. All you have to do is believe in yourself, and keep a
positive environment around you. A lot of people can also help you like your friends and
family. And in return, we should also help them. We should help each other cope up
effectively in this pandemic situation.
