Question no 1
What is perception, and what factors influence our perception?

Ans: Perception is the identification of the sensory information in order to understand the
presented information and environment.
Factors which influence our perception are:

 Attitude
 Personality
 Motives
 Interest
 Past experience
 Expectations

Question no 2
What is attribution theory? What are the three determinants?
Ans:
Attribution theory: This theory determines whether an individual’s behaviour is internally or
externally caused.
Three determinants of attribution theory
1. Distinctiveness: It refers to whether individual display different behaviour at different
situations. It is observed that this behaviour is usual if it is usual then distinctiveness
is high and highly likely is external attribution. Whereas if it is not usual then
distinctiveness is low and highly is an internal attribution.
2. Consensus: It refers to whether people behave in a same way when the situation is
different. If consensus is high it is externally attributed but if consensus is low it is
internally attributed.
3. Consistency: It refers that the individuals have same behaviour overtime. If
consistency is low then it is externally attributed. If consistency is high then it is
internally attributed.

Question no 3
What shortcuts do people frequently use in making judgments about others?
Ans:
Some of the shortcuts people use to judge others

 Selective perception
 Halo effect
 Contrast effect
 Stereotyping
Selective perception: It refers that we observed people selectively based on their past
experience or attitude.
Halo effect: In which we analyse individual based on their single specific characteristic.
Contrast effect: In which we evaluate person characteristics by comparing with others
within a same situation.
Stereotyping: In which we judge people on the bases of the group they belong.

Question no 4
What is the link between perception and decision making? How does one affect the
other?
Ans: Decision making occurs as a result to a problem, which is a discrepancy that exists
between the present state of affairs and a desired state. The perception of problems differs
among people.
Perception distortion affect decision making

Question no 5
What is the rational model of decision making? How is it different from bounded
rationality and intuition?
Ans:
Rational model decision making:
It determines that a person makes consistent, value maximizing choices within a specific
constraint.

It consists of 6 steps such as:

1. Define the problem
2. Identify the decision criteria
3. Weight each criterion
4. Generate possible alternative
5. Critically analyse and evaluate each alternative and also Compute the optimal
decision
6. Weight each alternative against each criterion and the select the highest one.
It is different from bounded rationality and initiation. Because bounded rationality is a
real-world model and refers as a sufficient solution from a limited resource. While
initiation is a process created from distilled experience that results in quick decisions.

Question no 6
What are some of the common decision biases or errors that people make?
Ans:

 Escalation of commitment: increasing commitment to a decision in spite of

evidence that is wrong.
 Randomness error: creating meaning from a random event.
 Winner curse: in which highest bidder pay large quantity of amount due to
overestimation.
 Hindsight bias: when outcome is already known, believing it could have been
accurately predicted beforehand.

What are the influences of individual differences, organizational constraints, and
culture on decision making?

 Customs
 Religions

Are unethical decisions more a function of an individual decision maker or the
decision maker’s work environment? Explain.
