Case Study No.01

Company working in Textile Sector feels that there is a limit less boom in the industry especially
in the category of female brands and just company need is bit of a financial support and strong
marketing efforts on which re sufficient to prevail in the category. Although there are some
leading brands in the category like Gul-Ahmad, Al-Karam Khadi and Nishat etc and all this are
impairing entry of so many rivals as the presence of these giants are making competition tense
and one cannot enter with ease. Although the boom is attracting the other company’s although
continuous downfall in country’s economy and value of currency in association with strong
competition and continuous change in technology are potent enough to impair intense increase
in rivals of these giants. Tough the continuous decrease in value of currency and increase in
competition might urge customers towards other brands which have less quality but with much
lesser prices as compared to these competing brands.

Required:
a) Please indicate elements of micro environment as well as forces of Michael Porters
indicated through the case. Please also quote how you observe the force in the
given paragraph through quoting exact lines from the passage. (03 Marks)

Answer
The micro environment in marketing includes all those micro factors that affect business
strategy, decision making and its performance. In our given case, elements of micro
environment are as follows:

 Customers or consumers
 Competitors (like Khadi, al karam etc)
 Suppliers (either individuals or business houses)
 Distributors (intermediaries, resellers or agents)
 Public

Michael Porter’s five forces (indicated through our case) are:

1. Threat of new entrants.

These types of textile industries already have big giants working in it. Moreover, company
requires large investments of capital to gain a serious foothold in a market. While threat of
new entry is based on how secure your company is from being surrounded by competitors.

2. Power of buyers (bargaining power).

We know that how much power do our buyers have over us. If we are selling a product like
clothes, their power is likely contained to order amounts and customers are more open to
negotiation. As we all know that customers are extremely price-savvy and may already have
experience of dealing with our competitors. Determining our relationship with buyer power
is all about how flexible we could be.

3. Bargaining power of supplier.

We need to focus as much on our costs as we do on our revenue. Assess the suppliers we
rely on and the potential power they have over the products we provide to them.

The greater the number of suppliers available to us, the easier it is to switch to a cheaper
alternative.

4. Substitutes.
This refers to the possibility that customers will find a different way of doing what our
company does. We may have our only originally conceived products that help customers,
but as time changes, so do their needs and desires too.

We must always examine how our customer’s lives have changed as our company has
grown and we must provide what they need to stop them to find a substitute.

5. Competitive Rivalry.

As we discussed already about this field giants, like al karam, khadi, nishat etc. we know
that this is a very tough competition in market while facing these giants who have number
of customers. We should make unique clothes that should be highlighted and prices must
be competitive.
