12. GAPS AND MECHANISM TO ADDRESS THE GAPS IN THE

SYLLABUS

Every time a new course is introduced by the affiliating university, the faculty members
offering the particular course have a discussion on the syllabus with senior faculty members
available and identify the gaps, if any. The gaps are identified based on its relevance in the
engineering programme and its usefulness for the students.
The gaps are covered during the academic transaction through student seminars, assignments
or discussions. The relevant content on the same is made available to the students and a copy
of this is filed in the Course File.
For GAPS see Annexure G.

13.ADD-ON COURSES

 English and Communication Skills

Ever since its inception, RSET has been offering training in English and Communication Skills
to all its students right from the first year onwards. Though the affiliating universities gradually
introduced courses in Communication Skills in the second year, RSET has been continuing the
practice of making an early start. The course in English and Communication Skills, with a
Language Lab component, continues to be offered during the first two semesters of the
engineering programme. Special training programmes in English are also conducted by the
department for the benefit of foreign students.

23 CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

23.1 TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT

Globalization and the dynamic nature of the engineering stream have created the demand for
engineers who are not only technically competent but who also have a fair measure of soft
skills and intercultural awareness. Organizations look for employees having this competitive
edge that will enable them to excel in their chosen field. The Training and Development Cell
aims at fulfilling this need and ensuring a smooth transition for the student into the world of
business as a full-fledged professional.
The objectives are to help students develop their personality and equip them with the additional
skills necessary to succeed in the workplace. Complementing the technical knowledge received
during the four year course, will be structured and continuous inputs on personality
development and soft skills that will enable students to have a holistic view of themselves, their
education and career choices. The areas of focus include:
 Self and context awareness
 Decision making and action planning
 Leadership skills
 Team skills
 Values & ethics
Coordinator: Prof. Jose Mathew Mattam
