includes the following disciplines:
(1) Mathematics.
(2) Physics.
(3) Chemistry.
(4) English/Communication Skills.
(5) Economics.
(6) Physical Education.
(7) Student Welfare/Counseling.
(8) Training & Development.
2. VISION
The department vision is to evolve into a center of excellence in sciences and humanities that
will blend innovative practices in professional teaching with research in frontier areas in a
mutually enriching manner, with the holistic development of the students as its prime focus.
3. MISSION
The department vision is to provide the students with an excellent background in the
fundamentals of sciences and humanities, to facilitate a comprehensive development of their
technical and professional competencies, to foster scientific temper and a culture of lifelong
learning, to produce high quality research, and to render socially relevant extension services

4. OBJECTIVE
The department objectives, which are derived from the vision and the mission statements, are
as follows:
MATHEMATICS
The objective of the courses is to create engineers with strong mathematical background,
creative thinking and problem solving skills, through systematic training and research and by
discovering feasible solutions to challenging real world problems.
ENGINEERING PHYSICS
The objective of the course is to help the students capitalize on the symbiotic relationship
between physics and engineering, which plays a primary role in all branches of engineering
and in essence is applied physics.
ENGINEERING CHEMISTRY
The objective of the course is to impart a scientific approach and to familiarize the applications
of chemistry in the field of technology and to create awareness about the major environmental
issues for a sustainable development.
ECONOMICS & MANAGEMENT
The objective of the courses is to equip the students in relating their engineering ideas to
market trends, to provide knowledge in identifying a proper market area where they can
implement their own start-up ideas and to motivate the students in relating engineering
knowledge to managerial economics.
ENGLISH & COMMUNICATION SKILLS
The objective of the courses is to provide a positive support system to hone the soft skills of
the students, and to provide a favorable environment which will motivate the students to
achieve their fullest possible potential for self-development in various aspects of language
and communication skills for success in their professional and social life.

Doctoral Committee in its first meeting shall prescribe two compulsory courses and a basket
of four electives to be undergone by the scholar. The scholar has to undergo any two of the
courses from the basket of electives prescribed by 9 the DC. Research Methodology is a
compulsory course, if this has NOT been undergone in the Post Graduate programme by the
research scholar. The number of courses to be undergone by the research scholar over and
above the minimum prescribed is at the discretion of the Doctoral Committee. All courses shall
be at the post graduate level of the college. In case no suitable courses are available, the
Chairman of the DC may allow courses of allied departments/institutions. Offering of new
courses by the department suitable for the research may also be resorted to under exigencies of
circumstances. The DC may give credit to courses already undergone by the Research Scholar
in the Institution or in sister institutions in the past four years, provided the course contents and
the evaluation pattern are similar. Credit to courses, other than Research Methodology, already
undergone by a Research Scholar will not be considered if they were credited for the award of
any previous degree. UG courses, may be prescribed as additional courses. In all prescribed
courses, the research scholar should earn minimum grade equivalent to the Grade D of APJ
Abdul Kalam Technological University.

Every time a new course is introduced by the affiliating university, the faculty members
offering the particular course have a discussion on the syllabus with senior faculty members
available and identify the gaps, if any. The gaps are identified based on its relevance in the
engineering programme and its usefulness for the students.
The gaps are covered during the academic transaction through student seminars, assignments
or discussions. The relevant content on the same is made available to the students and a copy
of this is filed in the Course File.

15.STUDENT EVALUATION
Student evaluation comprises 50 marks for the continuous internal assessment and 100 marks
for the end-semester university examination (except in certain courses specified by the
university*). A student should get 75 marks to pass the course.
The continuous internal assessment for courses offered by the department mainly consists of
test papers, and assignments. Attendance is given consideration in the Mahatma Gandhi
University internal marks calculation. The split up of marks for both the universities is as
shown:

semester examination is of 50 marks.
16.STUDENT FEEDBACK
Student feedback is obtained through a formal system at the end of the semester. Feedback is
taken for both the course and the faculty member offering the course.
The Course Outcome Feedback is obtained using the Course Outcome questions generated by
the concerned faculty member, using the Course Outcomes listed at the beginning of the
semester. A copy of the same is filed in the Course File. Sample copy of Course Outcome
Feedback and Faculty Feedback format by students is as shown below.

The Faculty Feedback is obtained using the format specified by the UGC/AICTE
Apart from this, feedback is also obtained on the course content and delivery during the class
committee and course committee meetings. This feedback is useful in improving course
coverage and ensuring effective course transaction.
17.REMEDIAL CLASSES
Remedial classes are offered by the department to specifically address the concerns of students
whose academic performance is not up to the mark. Extra classes are arranged after college
hours, or during weekends and study holidays for the same.
The process is usually initiated after the first internal test paper, which provides the opportunity
to gauge the academic standards of the students. Remedial classes are offered in Mathematics,
Physics and Chemistry. It is also offered in the other disciplines on a need basis.

REPORT- PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Physical education is crucial for budding engineers who must be physically fit, healthy and
energetic. To encourage students to take active part in sports and games, the following events
are conducted every year:
1. CHAVARA CUP
In loving memory of St.Kuriakose Chavara, every year RSET Physical Education Department
organizes an inter-Rajagiri basketball tournament called CHAVARA EVEROLLING
TROPHY in the month of October. The teams are RSET, RCASM, RCSS & SIENNA
BHAVAN.
2. RAJAGIRI TROPHY
An All Kerala invitational inter collegiate basketball tournament, it attracts entries from 20
colleges in the state.
Every year we organize Annual Sports Meet in the month of March. The meet is on House
wise Competitions. The meet began with the opening march past.
