Global Village
Global Village
Global Village
describe the phenomenon of the world’s culture shrinking and expanding at the same time due to pervasive
technological advances that allow for instantaneous sharing of culture” (kani gi copy ra nao ni haha pwede nimo ni
siya I introduction sa report nimo, mas better man gd to start with the person involved)
When we say global village, as Mcluhan stated, it describes the phenomenon of the entire world becoming more
interconnected as a result of media technologies (such as television and other electronic devices). He added on how
media television in particular changes social living, he pointed out the cause of globalization is the advent of media
technologies. Most media scholars are afraid concerning the effect of global media to our culture, they feared that it
would affect social living, such as people around the world would watch, read ad listen to the same information. This
act came from Western people, mainly American, culture. (maong most of the commentators, scholars believed na if
the medial globalization and American culture are coupled they would create a Cultural imperialism. If this
(sa global village be, simply lang man siya sabton kanang nay nay technology, but mcluhan focuses only on
television so if mag report ka always state television jd or if mag say man ka ug technologies I example ang
television jd)
(pwede ka mag state ug example) like people living without the presence of global village or globalization, they will
definitely sat infront of the fire talking various stories, myths or any collective stories, while those people in global
village will share the same information, or any kind of stories through television or any media while living apart
geographically.
Personally, there is a huge difference in social interaction, media culture, social living in global village and from what
we called traditional way of living.
To narrow down, global village means all parts of the world are being brought together by the internet and other
electrnic communication interconnections. For example, people living nowadays tend to get involved in every social
media platform, like Facebook, etc, though they are not physically connected but mentally connected
Media scholars also thought of challenges of blending global media culture to make it into homogenize culture (ibig
sabhin kay nay changes ang nakagawian na culture nato, kapag mahaluan ug advancement of technology) example
ana diba sauna ang mga tao kay naga use of kahoy to produce fire or unsa pa, but karon kay naa namay technology
diba naa nay gasol, stove, nalahi na ang kagawian. Lisoda mag Bisaya uy hahahahah.
When we say cultural imperialism and its connection sa global village, accrding to mcluhan, it is the presence of
technology in such ways, so if globalization (media globalization) happens, coupled with American control, they
would create a cultural imperialism, where american culture and values will take control/over others. As a result of
this formation (cultural imperialsm) not all are convinced kase media globalization shpuld concerned more on its
broad structures, (it means dapat tanan mahatagan ug importance or opinions basta ana), kase if mag focus sa
Western Cultural Imperialism, some global flows of information will probably be neglected, since mag foucs lang sa
American values and culture,
(dria kay ang global village murag western culture, like America, kay americans are more on technology, as we all
know they are one of the most advance country interms of economic status, technology driven facilities and
equipments, so that is why halos tanan are not convinced or nay 50/50 nuban na agrees about cultural imperialism )
