Extradosed Bridges - State of The Art: Indian Association of Structural Engineers
Over the past 25 years or so, Extradosed bridges have been an increasingly used bridge type for bridges in
a span range of about 100m to 250m. However there is no widespread understanding of what this bridge
type is, what the general design issues are, or what the general application of the bridge type may be.
Extradosed type of Bridges is a concept introduced way back in 1988 by J. Mathivat. In recent past
number of extradosed type bridges have been built in India and many such type of bridges are presently
under construction.
This presentation is aimed at young practicing bridge engineers who are interested to know the basics of
Extradosed Type of Bridges. The presentation gives a brief introduction to the Extradosed Type of
Bridges and will cover general definitions, history, background, conceptual design, some design
parameters, cable technology and construction issues pertaining to these type of bridges.
