ACTIVITY 2.

KINEMATICS

1. A bicyclist is traveling at +25 m/s when he begins to decelerate at -4 m/s2. How

fast is he traveling after 5 seconds?

- Initial speed = 25 m/s

Deceleration of the bicyclist = 4 m/s2
Let v is the speed of bicyclist after 5 seconds

V = 25 m/s (-4 m/s2) (5)

V = 5 m/s

2. Look at the velocity-time graph given

a. During which time interval or intervals is the speed constant?

- From to 15 sec

b. During which interval or intervals is the train’s acceleration positive?

- From 2 m/s to 10 m/s

c. During which time interval is its acceleration most negative?

-From 15s down to 20s

d. Find the average acceleration during the following time intervals:

a = AV/At a = wm/s/40s a = 0.25 m/s

3. Consider the following velocity-time graph.

Determine the displacement after t = ...

a. 10 s. b. 20 s. c. 30 s. d. 40 s.

2 m/s 0 m/s -8 m/s -2 m/s

4. Ben Rushin is waiting at a stoplight. When it finally turns green, Ben accelerates from
rest at a rate of 6.00 m/s2 for a time of 4.10 seconds. Determine the displacement of
Ben's car during this time period.

- d = 50.4m

5. How long will it take if you travel 400km with an average speed of 100m/s?

100 m/s . 1000m = 100, 000 = 250

400 1km 400

250 m/s

6. A particle is moving along a straight-line path. At times t1=2s and t2=4s its position from the
origin is x1=2m and x2=−8m. Find average velocity and average speed of the particle. ANS.
-6m/s
7. An object moving along the x-axis. At the instant t=1s, it is at the position x=+4m and has a
velocity of 4m/s. At t=5s, the object is at the location x=+9m and its velocity is −12m/s. What is
its average acceleration during the time interval 1≤ t ≤5?

Ans. -4m/s2

8. A car moves from rest to a speed of 72km/h in 4s. Find the acceleration of the car?
