MONTAÑITA
Our favorite place in ECUADOR is MONTAÑITA. Montañita, is one of the most desired destinations in
South America. Montañita beach is one of the longest and with one of the best waves for surfing.
However, you can also enjoy: a cold beer, read a book, listen to music, or just find a place on the
beach where you can relax.
How can they get to montañita?
Montañita Beach is located three hours from Guayaquil, 60 km from the city of Santa Elena, in the
MANGLAR ALTO parish. To get to Montañita, we will take Salinas as a starting point, 70 km away, 1
hour's drive until we reach the Montañita commune. Spondylus Route.
Around MONTAÑITA there are some towns such as: Puerto López, Los FRAILES and AYAMPE.
 Puerto López. -Following north, 45 minutes away is the fishing town of Puerto López, known
for whale watching in the months of June to October, you can also take a tour to visit the Isla
de la Plata, called the Galapagos de los poor.
 The Frailes. - Just 5 minutes from Puerto López is Los Frailes beach, one of the best beaches
in Ecuador, you must go early, since it is a reserve and they allow a limited number of people
to enter.
 AYAMPE. - Located between the beaches of Montañita and Puerto López, is the town of
AYAMPE, ideal for having a relaxing time on the beach and enjoying the gastronomy.
If you want to go to Montañita, the whole year is favorable, but the climate will be different
depending on the month. From December to April is the beach season and the sea water is warm, it
usually rains a lot but it is still hot. From May to November the water temperature is cold and it is
cloudier during the day with small drizzles.
What can we do in MONTAÑITA?

In MONTAÑITA there are many activities to do, but the most recommended are: Surf, Canopy and
Paragliding.
 Surf. - One of the activities that national and foreign travelers do the most, is learning to
surf, you can find a number of surf schools in the town and on the beach itself.
 Canopy. - They recently created a circuit of 4, 6 and 9 lines, to live an experience with
nature. Prices range from USD 10 to USD 20.
 Paragliding. - For those who love heights, they can fly all over the beach in paragliding.

What are the best places for fun?

The parties always get very good from midnight, so you should have an early dinner and then enjoy a
few drinks in the street of cocktails.
The places I recommend are:
 Lost beach. - Every weekend with good foreign DJs the sound of electronic music and its
derivatives shake the speakers. Admission can cost USD 20.
 CAÑA GRILL. - One of my favorite places, until midnight it has a live band, Latin rock and
other rhythms that make people jump. After midnight, a local DJ plays with all kinds of
music. The atmosphere is great, with entertainers, free tequila shot, fire juggling. Located on
the street of the cocktails and has a cost of USD 3 to 5 dollars. Most foreigners enter for
free.
 Alcatraz. - One of the new nightclubs, located on the main street, with an architecture
similar to a prison, with a very good atmosphere and music of all kinds. Admission usually
costs $ 5.
 Native BAMBU. - In a privileged location, facing the sea, is this disco with a good atmosphere
and good music to spend the night. The entrance can cost between 5 to 7 dollars.
How is the Gastronomy in Montañita?

Thanks to the number of travelers who have decided to visit Montañita, the inhabitants have
decided better on their gastronomy, and thanks to this it has grown in a fantastic way, where you
can eat from a hamburger stand to a restaurant with international haute cuisine.
In Montañita you can eat typical dishes from the coast of Ecuador, prepared with quality and
seasoning. It is important to try dishes such as breaded shrimp, shrimp in coconut sauce, garlic
shrimp, etc. In addition to shrimp, we can try other seafood "Squid (soft)", Octopus, Shell and
Prawns.
Be very careful where they eat, to avoid getting sick to their stomach, although it seems incredible
that places, no matter how beautiful they look, can have poor food handling. And not to mention the
delicious ice cream and soft drinks.
Is Montañita dangerous?
The town has experienced many incidents of robberies, murders, rapes and drug sales in previous
years, but the efforts of the national police and community mechanisms have brought back the
confidence of the traveler to spend a few days on their beach. Of course, always being alert because
common crime is in any country in South America.
If you have a camera or cell phone, try to be aware, try to have a copy of your passport. Don't carry
your credit cards, have cash. Leave the money in your suitcase in the room with a padlock or if the
hostel has a safe it is advisable to leave it with them.
