Time and Voltage
• Duration, measured in fractions of a second
• Amplitude, measured in millivolts (mV)
• Configuration, a more subjective criterion referring to the shape and
appearance of a wave.

Waves, Intervals, and Segments

P Wave
• The P wave represents
atrial depolarization
• Hodges formula:
• Normally the QTc is between about 330 msec and about 440 msec
• Functionally, U waves
represent the last
phase of ventricular
repolarization.

Rhythm and Rate
48
Sinus Rhythm as The Normal Rhythm
• The normal cardiac rhythm, initiated by depolarization of the
sinus node, is known as sinus rhythm and is present if:
• Every P wave is followed by a QRS
• Every QRS is preceded by a P wave
• The P wave is upright in leads I, II, and III
• The P wave is downward in lead aVR
• The PR interval is greater than 0.12 sec
