DOCTORAL PROGRAM IN PHYSICAL THERAPY

PT CLASS OF 2020 -- EXIT INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

Advisee’s Name: Elizabeth Osantowski

Date of Interview: 04/29/21

Interviewed by: Dr. Andraka

1. How would you characterize your overall experience in this program?

 I would characterize my overall experience in the program as good since it
taught me discipline, expanded my passion for the profession, and aided in
both, self and professional, growth and development.

2. What experiences during your time in the program do you feel contributed most to
your personal and professional development? (Experiences within or outside of
program)
 I think the experiences that contributed the most to my personal and
professional development were being able to gain hands on experience
such as Hands for Health clinic, MOVE! For Health, participating in HEP
with members in the community, and the PT CONECT. I also think
having the opportunity to hold a board position for the Hands for Health
clinic and PTSO assisted in further professional development in having
other responsibilities outside of the classroom.

3. What do you feel were the strengths of the curriculum and program?
 I think the strengths of the programs are having unique learning
opportunities such as Hands for Health clinic, MOVE! For Health, HEP
with members in the community, PT CONECT, interdisciplinary
assignments with SLP and PTA students, having PTSO and events outside
of the classroom, and the trip to Ireland.

4. What do you feel are the components of the curriculum and program that could be
altered and improved? What specific suggestions do you have for
change/improvement?
 I think one change could be the length of clinical experiences. Instead of
one short 6 week and two long 14 week rotations, I think it would be
better to have 10 week rotations or shorter with multiple locations. I think
this would allow students to gain more experience by going to several
locations and it will allow students to grow more since you are constantly
learning and changing environments.

5. Can you specifically describe one or two instructional or learning activities that were
particularly positive/valuable and growth enhancing for YOU? Why were these so
positive?
 One of my most positive learning activities was being able to conduct a
HEP with a member of the community. I felt like I was able to be as
creative and functional as possible with treatment ideas for the patient,
gain great hands on experience, and improve my skills as a therapist.
Within the classroom, I think classes that had labs were the most valuable
for my learning experience as I learn better through being hands on and
practicing.

6. What specific learning experiences contributed least to your personal and professional
development? Why?
 I think weekend elective courses contributed the least to my personal and
professional development as it was quick paced, which made retaining the
information minimal.

7. As you complete the program, what are your perceptions regarding the current status
and future directions of the PT profession? How has this changed since you started
the program? Do you feel the program has prepared you to enter a complex and
changing health care environment?
 My perception regarding the current status and future directions of the PT
profession are optimistic as the need for PT’s are essential. I think this
changed since I started the program and have completed my clinical
experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. It has taught me the
essential role we play and the extent of impact we have on others lives, not
only as professionals but providing support and empathy for patients. I
think the program has prepared me to enter the real world of PT. I feel
competent in my knowledge and skills, but am humble to know there is
always room for growth.

8. In what areas do you see yourself making a contribution to the profession?

 I see myself contributing to the profession by becoming a Clinical
Instructor and specializing in neuro PT in the future.

9. Looking back over your experience in the program and knowing what you do now, do
you feel you took full advantage of the learning opportunities in the program? Is there
anything else as an INDIVIDUAL you would have done to enhance your learning?
 Personally, I feel like I took full advantage of the opportunities given to
me in the program and would not change anything to have enhanced my
learning further.
