Silver Linings Playbook
Silver Linings Playbook is about the life of a man, named Pat, possibly in his late 30s, after he got out of a psych ward due to his bipolar disorder. Prior into getting in, he had caught his wife cheating on him with his co-worker, which led to an outburst of a bipolar episode and him being committed into the ward. Despite such tragedy, he was still positive he would get his old life back; a life with his wife. Little did he know that during his 8-month stay, his wife had left him and sold their house, which he refused to believe. He then was invited to an old friend’s home for dinner and met Tiffany, who was his friend’s wife sister. The two shared a common ground; the both of them had ever spent time in a mental institution and is practically an expert in mental inducing drugs. Tiffany used to be married to a policeman until he died, to which something she still hasn’t entirely moved on from and is the reason for her mental instability. Though there is an obvious spark between the two, Pat denies his feelings and tries to avoid Tiffany, though failing at such effort. Tiffany however, doesn’t give up and got Pat to make a deal with her: Tiffany agreed to helping Pat write letters for his ex- wife in exchange that Pat be Tiffany’s dance partner for an upcoming dance competition that she so badly wanted to participate. The deal goes on and each week, Pat sends a letter and receives one back from his ex-wife, and then he would show up at Tiffany’s and they would have a dance rehearsal. This little pact was secret to everyone around them, though Pat’s parents are starting to suspect something was up. One day, however, Pat misses rehearsal which angers Tiffany as the competition is closing in and they were nowhere near ready to compete. He comes to his house to confront him, where she found him upset. He misses the rehearsal because his dad forces him to watch a football game at the stadium, but it didn’t end well as he engages into a fight and got kicked out. The two had an argument which results in Pat angrily leaves the house to cool down his head and re-read the letters his ex-wife had sent him. Only then he realizes that those letters weren’t actually from his ex-wife; it was Tiffany. Pat then realizes that all this time, he did have feelings for Tiffany. On the day of the competition, the two were anxious. Pat’s family and friends, as well as Tiffany’s family was there to watch the two compete. Tiffany then realized that joining them, Pat ex-wife’s was there as well. This upsets her and she disappears to have a drink with a stranger. When it was their turn, Pat looks for her, finds her and reminds her that they have a competition to win. The two didn’t win the competition, but they passed the bare-minimum, which made them happy. Though Tiffany then remembers about his ex-wife, and heartbroken, leaves the competition. Pat chases her and confesses his feelings to her. He said that he had knew the first time he met her and he apologized for taking so long to realize it. The two share a kiss. The end.
