Each year in October, artists from around the world participate in an

online event called "Inktober"  where they  challenge themselves by doing
one ink drawing a day the entire month. In 2015, I adapted the idea to fit
with Zentangle art by making each day's prompts be a tangle.

My goal for every year's list is to have a blend of official and non-official
tangles, with a good variety of organic and grid-based tangles. It is my
hope that within this list, you find tangles that you love and tangles that
push your creative comfort zone.

If you cannot commit to the entire month, you can opt to draw however
many tiles you can manage, or you can also combine the prompts of a
couple of days into one tile. If you miss a day, don't feel discouraged! Just
continue from where you left off, or do that day's prompt. The challenge
is meant to get you to draw more, not to have you be overwhelmed, so
just do what you can and have fun.

You can do your Inktober Tangles in any format. You can also choose to
keep your work in black and white, or add colours to it. Last year, I did my
Inktober Tangles in an accordion book. In this handout, I did my examples
on tinted tiles. I can't wait to see what you decide to do for this year's
challenge.

If you'd like to participate, draw a tile a day using the day's listed tangle,
and hashtag your art work using #InktoberTangles2020 so that other
people can find out what you create each day. You can post your art on
your blog or on your Instagram. The 7F5R Challenge group on Facebook is
the official group for Inktober Tangles. You can find it
here: http://bit.ly/FB7F5R

For easy reference, I have linked each tangle

to its step-outs. So you can just click on the
tangle's name to find out how to draw it.

Without further ado, here  is the list of tangles

for the 5th edition of Inktober Tangles.

Day 1: Flux by Zentangle Inc.

We're starting off with a fan-
favourite: Flux. Will you draw
Rick's version, or Maria's?

Perhaps you'd also like to try

the tangle, InaFlux.

Day 2: Jackstripes by Chrissie

Frampton
A new-to-me tangle.

Do you like to draw grid-based

tangles using straight or curvy
lines?

Day 3: Anthem by Jody

Genovese
I learnt this tangle last year,
and knew that I had to include
it in this year's Inktober
Tangles list. Anthem is one of
those tangles that really come
to life after you add shading to
it.

Day 4: Unbirthday by
Stephanie Jennifer
This is one of my newest
tangles. I hope you have fun
with it.

Day 5: Pepper by Zentangle

Inc.
I don't see this tangle being
used very often, so I'd love to
see what you create with it.

Day 6: Henna Drum by Jane

MacKugler
A floral tangle that is so
versatile. Try filling the petals
in different ways to see what
you can come up with.

Day 7: Doodah by Zentangle

Inc.
This tangle reminds me of a
zipper. I can see it used very
beautifully as a border, too.

Day 8: Amarin by Debbie New

There are so many ways that
you can use this tangle. It also
has a very meditative quality to
it as it is simple and repetitve.

Day 9: Fugu by Sonya Yencer

This tangle was mentioned
quite a number of times last
year when I asked what tangles
should be in this year's list.

It reminds me of coffee beans.

Day 10: Cadent by Zentangle

Inc.
There are endless possibilities
with Cadent. What will you fill
your Cadent with?

I've seen people use it as a

string, too!

Day 11: Divi by Jem Miller

At one point in time last year, I
was obsessed with this tangle. I
hope you enjoy playing with it
as much as I did.

Day 12: Bosch by Maria

Vennekens
This was a new-to-me tangle.

The tangle was found as a

decorative border on the
ceiling of the Jeroen Bosch
museum in Den Bosch.

Day 13: Waybop by Zentangle

Inc.
This tangle has a few more
steps than other tangles, but
don't let that scare you. You
can do it!

Don't forget about Hearty

Waybop, too.

Day 14: Iugo by Stephanie

Jennifer
Iugo is versatile and can fit into
any shape you like. You can
also try it as a border.

Day 15: Abukas by CharKat

I always draw gemstones in the
middle of tangles with a
circular centre.

We're already half-way through

Inktober. How's it going for you
so far?

Day 16: Bunzo by Zentangle

Inc.
I don't think I draw my Bunzo
the way it's meant to be drawn,
but I'm okay with that.

Do you like filling your Bunzo

with black ink, or leaving it
white?

Day 17: Dragonair by Norma

Burnell
The step-outs show it to look
like dragon scales, but I think it
can resemble a feather, too.

Day 18: B-twined by Pegi

Schargel
The truth is that I struggle with
a lot of grid-based tangles. I
almost always will turn straight
lines into curvy lines.

What's one creative thing

that you struggle with?

Day 19: Molygon by Zentangle

Inc.
Have fun filling it with different
patterns! Or keep it empty and
shade it to make it look 3D.

Day 20: Hollis by Zentangle

Inc.
Hollis is the newest Zentangle-
official tangle so I had to
include it in this list.

Hollistic is a fun variation of

Hollis that you might want to
try.

Day 21: Quin by Jem Miller

Quin reminds me of those
reversible sequin pillow cases.

Lots of opportunities with what

you can fill this tangle with.

Day  22: Aquafleur by

Zentangle Inc.
Go crazy with your starting
shape and see where your pen
takes you.

Day 23: Tropicana by Kate

Ahrens
The empty space within
Tropicana can be filled with so
many different patterns, and
its tiny triangle can be filled
with fragments. I'm excited to
see what you create with this
tangle.

Day 24: Zenith by Zentangle

Inc.
Slow breaths and light
pressure on your pen...

I hope this weekend treats you

well and that you're enjoying
this creative journey so far.

Day 25: Aruna by Debbie New

Take a virtual trip to Bangkok
with Debbie and be inspired by
the magnificent architectural
design the country has to offer.

Day 26: Paradox by Zentangle

Inc.
We're focusing on our lines
today with Paradox. Remember
to turn your tile as you go
along, and to not hold your
breath as you're tangling!

Day  27: Gelijoy by Nadine

Roller
With patience (GEduld in
German) and love (LIebe
means love) comes JOY!

What a fun name for this

tangle, and a good reminder
for ourselves.

Day 28: Icantoo by Hanny

Waldburger
If you've struggled with
drawing Icanthis,  perhaps
you'll have a better time with
Icantoo. It gives a similar look
but is more simple to draw.

Day 29: Fassett by Lynn Mead

I love the "wow factor" you get
once you shade Fassett. Don't
forget to try out the different
variations of this tangle!

Day 30: Hamadox by Diana

Schreur
Do you have certain tangles
that you absolutely love but
never remember to use?
Hamadox is like that, for me.

What's one tangle that you love

but often forget about?

Day 31: Spud by Debbie New

A tangle gifted to my daughter,
from my best friend, Debbie.
Spud resembles a potato
flower.

With that, Inktober Tangles

2020 has come to an end. I
hope you enjoyed the journey.
