Q1. An ammeter reads 6.7 A and true value of current is 6.54 A. Determine the error and the correction
for this instrument.

Q2.A voltmeter reads 109.5 V. The error taken from an error curve is -0.37 V. Determine the true
voltage.

Q3. The measured value of a voltage is 111 V while its true value is 110 V. Calculate the relative error.

Q4. A 0-100 V voltmeter has 200 scale divisions which can be read to ½ division. Determine the
resolution of the meter in volt.

Q5. A diaphragm type pressure measuring instrument is calibrated for absolute pressures of 6 to 760
mm of mercury. It has an accuracy of ±1% based upon scale span. Calculate the scale range, scale span
and maximum static error.

Q6. State the number of significant figures in each of the following:

(a) 542 A (b) 1.65 V (c) 27.25 W (d) 0.00005Ω (e) 4×10^6 (f) 20,002 (g) 0.345 kΩ

Q7. The true value of voltage across a resistor is 50 V. The measurement finds a value of 49 V. Calculate
(a) the absolute error (b) the percent error.

Q9. A voltmeter has an input resistance of 15 MΩ. How much noise voltage will it generate for each
cycle of frequency bandwidth at 17⸰C ? The Boltzmann constant is 1.38×10^-23 J/K.
Q10. Calculate the noise power available in 100 kHz of bandwidth at a temperature of 300 K. The
Boltzmann constant is 1.38×10^-23 J/K.

Q11. Calculate power spectrum density from a welding torch whose temperature is 7000C. The
Boltzmann constant is 1.38 x 10-23 J/K [Ans. 01x10-8 W /Hz]

Q12. An amplifier has a noise figure of 30 db. If the input signal S/N is 100, what is the output S/N ?
Calculate also the noise factor. [Ans. 0.1, 1000]

Q13. A high impedance voltmeter has a 15 MO input impedance which is composed of three 5 M2
resistors in series. Calculate the total noise voltage generated in the resistors at a temperature of 290K
over a 100 kHz frequency range. Boltzmann constant is 1.38 ×10-23 J/°K. [Ans. 155 V ]

Q14. A resistor at a temperature of 290K has a noise voltage of 2 u V for a 50 kHz bandwidth Calculate
the temperature at which the noise is 20% of its value at 290 K. [Ans. 11.6˚K]

Q15. In order to measure noise figure of an amplifier, a noise voltage that is 10% of the signal voltage
is applied at the input of the amplifier. The noise voltage at the output of the amplifier is 20% of the
signal voltage Calculate the noise figure of the amplifier [Ans, 6.02 db]

Q16. A mercury thermometer has a capillary tube of 0.3 mm diameter. If the bulb is made of zero
expansion material what volume must it have if a sensitivity of 3 mm/C is desired ? Assume operating
temperature of be 20°C and co-efficient of volumetric expansion of mercury is 0.181x 10-3

Q17. Four resistors are connected in series. The values of resistors are 28.4 Ω , 4.25 Ω, 56.605 Ω, and
0.75 Ω with an uncertainty of one unit, in the last digit in each. Calculate the total series resistance,
giving only significant figures in the answer. [Ans. 90 Ω]

Q18. A current of 2.56 A is flowing in a resistance of 45.73 Ω. Each quantity has an uncertainty of one
unit in the last digit. Find the value of voltage drop to the appropriate number of significant figures.

[Ans. 117 V]

Q19. Deter the linearity of a potentiometer to obtain an error not to exceed 1 part in 10,000 [Ans. 0.01%]

Q20. A recording instrument requires a current of 0.05 A to overcome initial friction and produce
motion of the movement Define this effect and list factors which produce it. [Ans. Dead zone =
0.05 A]
