If no SICON is connected to the PhaseGuard,

a zero calibration can be initiated via terminal
A (3). To do so, you must establish a connec-
tion between terminal A (3) and terminal GND
(1) via an external normally open contact. The
"Zero calibration" procedure is described in

6.3 General steps for the electrical installation

of the SICON
6.3.1 Safety pointers for the electrical installation

Life threatening voltage inside the instrument:

Connecting electrical lines can be life threatening. Parts of the system can also be damaged.
DANGER! Local regulations must be observed at all times for electrical installations.

Further, the following basic principles must be observed:

It is imperative that the protective conductor is connected.
Because the instrument has no main switch, a suitable disconnection device (switch,
plug) must be installed near the service voltage.
If malfunctions cannot be remedied, the unit must be put out of operation and pro-
tected against inadvertent operation.

6.3.2 Opening the SICON and fastening the cover

.
1. Open shutters. 2. Undo fastening screws of the cover.

3. Open cover. 4. Fasten cover with cover clamp. To do that,

remove cover clamp from the park posi-
tion (X) and fasten cover in position (Y).

6.5 Connecting the Profibus DP or Modbus RTU

field bus interfaces
The computer and/or the master or control system must be compatible with the Profi-
bus DP/ Modbus RTU bus system.
The computer and/or the master or control system must have software which can
properly process the data provided by the measuring instrument. SIGRIST-
PHOTOMETER cannot offer support for this.
The SICON must be equipped with the appropriate add-on module
(Profibus DP / Modbus RTU).
The SICON must be connected to the bus system.

Field bus interface REFERENCE MANUAL PhaseGuard C/T/HT

8 Field bus interface

8.1 Introduction
The PhaseGuard or SICON can be operated on the Modbus RTU or Profibus DP field buses.

The following requirements must be met:

The computer and/or the master or control system must be compatible with the Profi-
bus DP/ Modbus RTU bus system.
The computer and/or the master or control system must have software which can
properly process the data provided by the measuring instrument. SIGRIST-
PHOTOMETER cannot offer support for this.
The photometer or SICON must be equipped with the appropriate Profibus DP or
Modbus RTU add-on module.
The photometer must be connected to the bus system.

The separately available white paper (document number 10662D) provides relevant and
thorough information about the bus systems and their use.

The address table necessary for programming is found separately according to bus system in
the following sections.

8.2 Modbus RTU

Connecting the field bus interfaces is described in Section 5.
To connect to the Modbus RTU, the optionally available Modbus RTU module must be
integrated in the photometer or SICON.
To be able to work with the Modbus RTU, the bus parameters in the Digi. interf.
→Modbus menu must be correctly set. If the associated parameters are changed, the
function becomes effective after a restart.

If the PhaseGuard or SICON is used as a terminal device, the DIL switch (→ Section 5) must
be switched On on the connection module.

8.3 Profibus DP
Connecting the field bus interfaces is described in Section 5.
To connect to the Profibus, the optionally available Profibus DP module must be inte-
grated in the photometer or SICON.
To be able to work with the Profibus DP, the bus parameters in the Digi. interf.
→ Profibus menu must be correctly set. If the associated parameters are changed,
the function becomes effective after a restart.

If the PhaseGuard or SICON is used as a terminal device, the DIL switch (Section 5) must be
switched On on the connection module.

In the state field, the higher value byte changes in half-second cycles between 0 – 1 – 0. To
evaluate this field, the field must be polled at least every half second. A byte field is on out-

output to input address 46. This check is not dependent on the polling time.

Condensation on electronic and optical components

Do not open the photometer if a cold medium is flowing through the lines. Perform this
CAUTION! work procedure only when the system is in a sterilization phase or the medium is at least at
room temperature. Similarly, if the instrument is removed from the line for service work,
make sure that the instrument is at least at room temperature before it is opened.

If the desiccant has to be frequently replaced, the sealing of the instrument should be
checked by a SIGRIST service technician.
The following servicing duty is identical for the PhaseGuard standard version and for
PhaseGuard with integrated field bus interface (Modbus RTU / Profibus DP).

WORKSTEP PROCEDURE
1 Remove cover of electronic part. Turn cover counter-clockwise and remove
