1. Introduction

Book Shop System is a desktop application which will be built to automate all the operations
in the book shop. The purpose of this system is to manage the books and to keep record of
everything in the book store. Generally, book shop system includes the order processing,
stock management and account management. This system will be developed to maintain the
records of sales, purchase, stationary, books and employees’ records. System will be
developed using Java. This system will provide the facility to the customers of the shop to
purchase the books from the shop without any complexity as well as helpful for the
management to keep track of everything.

2. Objectives

The main objective of Book Shop system is to manage the books and to keep record of
everything. Book Shop system will maintain record of sales, purchase, stationery and
employees and will generate reports and will automatically calculate the total bill of
purchased items.

3. Problem Description

In current era, when everything is moving towards automation, the book stores are still
doing manual record keeping. Manually maintaining the record is a time consuming and a
hectic process; and there is a chance that data may be lost. Many of the book stores are
managing the data manually. Moreover, there are many problems in managing the stock and
a lot of paper work is involved in the current (manual) process.

4. Methodology

In Book Shop desktop application, we will be using Java programming language. An

incremental model will be used for this project because it is easier to manage risk as it
identifies risk easily. Moreover, with each release a new feature is added to the product. If
further changes are needed, it will accommodate all the changes.

5.Project Scope

6. There are three basic users –

Anonymous, Registered
Members(customers),
7. Administrator
8. The customer, through the

process of account creation,

will have the option to
9. Become a member of the
site.
10. The system will allow

customers to browse, search,

select,
11. And add books to a
shopping cart.

12. Admin has the authority to

add/delete users, grant

permission to members and
13. users to purchase book.
The Book shop system should help the customers and shopkeepers query whether a book is
in stock, the user can query the availability of a book either by using the book id, title or by
using the name of author. The main aim of this project is to record the details of various
activities of user. It simplifies the task and reduce the paper work. The system should
generate sales statistics for any period. Moreover, the record of sales, purchase, stock,
stationary, equipment and employees will be managed.

6. Brief Feasibility Study

With above defined scope, we would be able to meet our project schedule because it is
feasible due to the availability of internet connection.

1. Risks Involved
 Copyright
 Internet connection may be lost

2. Resource Requirement
 PC or Laptop
 Internet connection
 Keyboard
 Mouse
 Printer

7. Solution Application Areas

We are developing this desktop application for every type of book store who are managing
their record manually and don’t have any specific system to maintain the complete record of
everything that will be saved for the whole life. This web application will be useful in all over
the world.
