1. Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) through Capella
Explain your understanding about the levels for MBSE that this APP offers:

- Operational Analysis: Capture and consolidate operational needs from

stakeholders. Define what the users of the system have to accomplish. Identify
entities, actors, roles, activities, concepts.
 With the Operational Capability Blank Diagram we will depict the capabilities
the users expect
 I become familiar with how Capella depicts Actors and Entities in a modeling
notation
 I learn how Capella depicts Operational Capabilities in a modeling notation.

Operational Analysis applied to the proposal.

- System Analysis: Identify the boundary of the system, consolidate requirements.

Define what the system has to accomplish for the users. Model functional
dataflows and dynamic behaviour.
 The System Capability Blank Diagram depicts the capabilities the
users of the system will expect.

- Logical Architecture: Define how the system will work so as to fulfill

expectations.

 The Logical Architecture is the step off point to prototypes and
evaluations

- Physical Structure: How the system will be developed and built.

 The Physical Architecture Blank Diagram will depict the
Components and Functions of the Design.
 Capella depicts Physical Components in the solution.
 ARCADIA introduces a Behavioral Component to capture the
functions of the system.
 Capella allows allocation functions to the behavioral components
 Physical Architecture can be annotated used to capture design
decisions.
 The physical architecture is step off point to very specific domain
tools to implement the electrical, mechanical and software.

2. Proposal Justification with Feasibility Analysis

a. Project Definition:
1. Select the project. It is important to identify a problem or idea you think it has
value
The use of smartphones has been increasing more and more with the
advancement of technology, this events increase the consumption of energy. In
this work, it is presented the design of a bicycle capable of charging cell phones or
other electronic devices (that are capable of charge through an USB port).
2. Sketch the concept. It is important to begin the process of visualizing the idea.
In order to obtain the mechanical energy from the bicycle and keeping it portable
for any type of bicycle, a “dynamo” should be used. As this technology just requires
getting the rotating section against the tire, can be implemented in any bicycle. The
dynamo delivers alternate current while being actioned. This is not suitable for
mobile device charging system. For overcoming this situation, the current must be
rectified. This rectification should be achieved by using a rectification bridge. The
obtained current may have many voltage drops, what may lead to damage of the
device. For overcoming this, we should use a capacitor. At the end, would be
necessary to use a transformer for decreasing the voltage and finally filtering it.
3. Define and tailor the process.
It is expected that this project can be carried out in the remaining time of the
semester, defining the work times to accommodate them in such a way that there
are significant advances in each week until the project is completed; However, it is
taken into account that there will be certain limitations to the development of the
project due to the lack of resources, therefore, as the project progresses, it is
possible that certain ideas will be abandoned or modified in order to meet the
established objectives.
4. Identify the owner, the customer, and the user.
- We are the owner of the system because we are the ones who sets the goals of
our design and we are the ones who authorizes the major design decisions.
- The Customers are those whose main means of transport is the bicycle or who
practice cycling actively. Also within the range of clients are parents who seek to
provide a safe means of transportation for their children.
- The user for the case of this project is intended to be the same clients.
5. Write a mission statement.
The main objective is the development of the bicycle with charger included in order
to take advantage of the mechanical energy generated when riding the bicycle and
transform it into electrical energy. This project is implemented with the aim of
reducing both electricity consumption and generating an alternative means of
transport that is friendly to the environment.

b. Context Definition:
1. Define the system boundary.
By applying the knowledge obtained along our career, we had the intention to
design an electrical real-life system capable of using a bicycle dynamo (alternator)
for generating the electrical energy required to recharge a smartphone while riding
the bicycle. For this matter, we gathered to discuss the best solution to solve the
problem, make an inventory of the required materials, buying it and building it.
However, with the current circumstances and some given tribulations, were needed
to change our perspectives and the scopes. In this way, we determined that the
wisest new approach, should be based in simulation. In this context, we intended
to make our simulation solution complete and complex, in order to keep applying
several knowledges from our career even in simulation. With this, we came to the
idea to implement mathematical scripting, programming, CAD and electrical
simulation in the same system

c. Functional Requirements Definition:

Make the bicycle look attractive to the Make the bicycle attractive to young
public people and adults
the bicycle has to be simple
Make the bicycle simple to use Charging the phone by using the bicycle
has to be easy for everyone
Do not make a complex battery charger
design
Do not make a bicycle that hinders the
mobility of the user
Make the bicycle safe The electrical components of the bicycle
must be implemented in such a way that
they cannot harm the user
Make a reliable charger The charger must generate enough power
to charge the phone's battery.
The charger has to be compatible with
most cell phones
Do not make a charger that could damage
the user's cell phone
Besides this, state the Project plan must contain:
a. The end goals:
- Reduce the consumption of electrical energy that is generated when
recharging the battery of a cell phone.
- Create a product that is capable of taking advantage of the mechanical
energy that is generated when riding a bicycle and is also capable of
taking advantage of solar energy.
- Create an alternative means of transport that does not generate carbon
emissions or other gases that are harmful to the environment.

b. Establish constraints:
- The costs of the materials that will be used for the development of the
project must be taken into account, since it is intended to be an
accessible product for everyone.
- It must be taken into consideration that the solar charger integrated in
the bicycle has to be small to be integrated into the bicycle without
affecting its performance, and at the same time it must be located in a
position in which the sun is constantly shining without affecting the user.
- The charging time of a smartphone through solar energy is longer
compared to the time required through electric energy.

c. Define indicators of success:

- The bicycle is capable of generating the energy necessary to recharge
the cell phone battery, taking advantage of the conversion of mechanical
energy into electrical energy.
- The combination of the solar panel with the dynamo generates enough
energy to recharge a cell phone battery.

Project Brief:
The proposal consists of developing an electric bicycle that is capable of taking
advantage of the mechanical energy that the user generates when pedaling to be
able to transform it into electrical energy and in this way be able to supply power to
the telephone. We also seek to design and develop a complete, advanced and
functional simulation system, capable to generating the alternate current that the
bicycle dynamo does and exporting such data for being implemented in electrical
simulation and showing a brief example through an animation of the implied
mechanical process.
