Setting makes the story vivid and interesting. In a moving picture, setting makes a
movie seems to be real. The setting is established through the use of costumes,
backdrop and even in the language of the characters.
Sometimes you can guess the time through clues and hints that are in the story.
For example, when you go to bed, it is usually night time. The setting is both your room (the
physical location) and night-time (the time of day). Study the web below.

The characters of a story on the other hand, is a person or other being in a
narrative. The traits and character in a story are made known through the author’s
use of descriptive words, by the actions of the characters and by the words coming
from the other characters or storyteller in the story.

Example: Margie is a 6th grade learner of Special Science Elementary School.


Ever since, her classmates used to call her Margie-the kindest girl in
school.
Margie is always willing to help her classmates in doing their class tasks
and projects. On Saturdays and Sundays, she takes good care of her
parents, sisters and brothers and attends little concerns of neighbours.
