PREFACE

The Research Committee of the Nordic Concrete Federation is

very pleased to present herewith volume 5 of "Nordic Concrete
Research" which contains selected papers on research projects
within the field af the technology and structural design of
concrete, carried out ar concluded during 1986 in the five
Nordic countries.

We hope that the present issue of Nordic Concrete Research will

also find many readers throughout the world and stimulate the
establishment of personal contacts and cooperation between
concrete researchers in our part and the rest of the world.

Readers are invited to take note of the faet that the 13th
Nordic Concrete Research conference will take place in Odense,
Denmark an August 12-15, 1987. In this connection a special
edition of Nordic concrete Federation's magazine "Nordisk Be-
tong", containing summaries (in English) of all ongoing re-
search projects in the Nordic countries, will be issued.
Further information rnay be obtained by contacting Dansk Beton-
forening, Vester Farimagsgade 31, 1606 Capenhagen V, Denmark.

Thanks are due to the Norwegian Concrete Association for orga-

nizing the printing and distribution of this volurne of Nordic
Concrete Research.

THE NORDIC CONCRETE FEDERATION'S RESEARCH CDHHITTEE

The Research Committee acts under the auspices of the Nordic

Concrete Federation which embodies the Concrete Associations of
the five Nordic countries. The aim of the committee is to sti-
mulate and, when possible, coordinate the concrete research in
the member countries. By creating fora where scientists can
present and exchange views on their current research projects,
the Committee endeavours to fullfill its task. Thus, a nurnber
of smal! seminars on special topics as well as triennal re-
search congresses are arranged by the Commit~ee .

It also falls within the competence of the Research Committee

to issue "Nordic Concrete Research", an annual publication con -
taining selected papers on current concrete research projects
in the Nordic countries.
