IV Name & Date Dr.Mohammad Alazah

Submission Format

Report (produced using MS word) that includes all calculations, figures, discussion or conclusions.

This is a strictly individual assignment and no collaboration amongst students is allowed. Be organized
and neat. Make sure to answer all prompts. Highlight the final answers. Include all the relevant information,
calculations, diagrams, photos, etc…. You may use a software package (Excel,, etc…) only where it is
indicated that the use of such tools is allowed, otherwise you must use analytical solutions as learned in class.

Submit a hardcopy (double-sided print) by the indicated deadline along with the signed student declaration
form.

No Late submissions will be accepted.

Unit Learning Outcomes

LO1 Identify the relevance of mathematical methods to a variety of conceptualized engineering examples.

LO2 Investigate applications of statistical techniques to interpret, organize and present data by using
appropriate computer software packages.

LO3 Use analytical and computational methods for solving problems by relating sinusoidal wave and vector
functions to their respective engineering applications.

LO4 Illustrate the wide-ranging uses of calculus within different engineering disciplines by solving problems
of differential and integral calculus.

Assignment Brief and Guidance

Task #3: Plane Elevation of a plane

A Cessna plane takes off from an airport at sea level and its altitude (in meter) at time t (in minutes) is given
by h = 2500 ln (t + 2). Find the rate of climb at time t = 3 min. knowing that the climb at a given time is
dh/dt?

Calculate the rate of change dh/dt equation if h = 4t2+ 3cos t

Task#4: Assessment of the sand dumping.

A power boat moves at a time its speed S from a fixed point O on that line is given by f(x)=

. Find the Distance Equation for this boat.

Task #5: Quantity Estimate.

You are a site engineer in a contracting company. One day, the quantity surveyor in your company was not
in the office. Your project manager asked you to calculate the area of tiles you need to apply and install for a
pool. The shape of the tile is shown in the graph below in purple color. What is the area of the tile
(highlighted it in purple) work knowing that the curve of the shape is f(x)=− 3x 4 +5x 2 −9x+1
Task #6: Locating Minimum and maximum Point.

The location of a labour who is running in the construction site could be calculated according to the following
equation:

y = 5x3 + 2x2 − 3x

You are a site engineer and you challenged yourself to Sketch the graph of Y against X, marking all the points
of maximum, minimum using the higher order derivative.
