Executive Summary

This Internal Assessment will be dealing with sustainably in the sector of attraction. Sustainable

tourism is the concept of visiting somewhere as a tourist and trying to make a positive impact on

the environment, society, and economy and to enhance tourism development of the country, it

plays an important role in conserving biodiversity in the country visited by foreigners. It lets the

tourist give a feedback of how bad or how well the tourist destination is within the country. In

Splashmins Resort the researcher is looking forward to assess if the linkages, coordinate with the

sector, as well to determine the impacts the business would have socially and environmentally

and to give a brief conclusion with recommendations to the overall internal assessment on

attractions all done by an interview..

Description of Business

Splashmins resort and Fun Park is a man-made resort located in Madewini Linden, Guyana. It is

owned by Mr. Lennox John, who therefore is a sole proprietor. Mr. John referred to this resort as

a “Mad man’s vision” of entertainment for residents locally and for tourist, in addition is covers

over 700 acres of lush tropical rainforest in Madewini. In essence, it was created from “Pure

Swamplands” of the Madewini basin.

The profile of the business is very spectacular whereby it hosts many conferences for the

Government and firms as well as parties. It also held many weddings, anniversaries and many

reunions for both old and young people. In addition, many young men and women would make

up the vast majority of people that is considered to visit the resort on a regular basis, for romantic

getaway, honeymoon and evenly for recreation. In essence Splashmins is considered to be one of

Guyana’s best tourist destination.

At the resort, it is seen that there was many vegetations as well as fruit trees are planted. This

activity is very supreme and beneficial to the resort. It is a basic linkage that can not only

generate revenue but to preserve the environment health wise limiting carbon dioxide from the

area in addition many new houses are constructed and repaired to accommodate more tourist to

increase the accommodation capacity for future generations and these two are the major presence

of formal sustainability at Splashmins Resort.

Methodology

In order to obtain information, the researcher use the interview method to carry out
investigation and obtain the necessary results needed for the research. An interview can be
defined as a conversation between two people or more where questions are asked to a person to
get the required responses or answers. This research was carried out using a qualitative approach
of data collection. The interview method was used because of its way of going depth to
answering questions relating to the research and would be which detailed information that would
collected.
This method is not expensive as compared to other methods used. In addition it gives a clear
explanation for context that would be subjective to the researcher.
The problems the researcher encountered in the collection of data are, persons that are

important for the research was not on time and finally when the person arrived there was limited

amount of time given to interview the person produce information.

Limitations

1. Took a while to retrieve that information

2. Restriction from going iconic homes of the famous Guyanese

3. Information was very limited and some was confidential

4. The rain fell heavily and that delayed the time to obtained information

5. The people of importance wasn’t on time and that limited the amount of time to obtain

information
Linkages

A linkage is a channel through which information, material and money flow between a company

and its suppliers and create a network of economic interdependent. Three sectoral linkages that

would be discussed here would be:

1. Recreation

2. Construction

3. Event

Inter Sectoral Linkage

Recreation plays a pivotal role in terms of attraction. Most tourist would visit Splashmins to

relax, play sports or to have tours away from their home country and to have great time, not

forgetting the locals. Recreation is also a positive impact that works hand in hand with attraction.

Events is the major inter sectoral linkage in the resort. It is backward and forward linkage of the

business. Events are mostly held in the resort when overseas artiste visits to perform or even the

local Guyanese at a planned date. In addition, Splashmins offers events such as kayaking, beach

volleyball and other games. This can generate revenue for the country as well as the resort and to

promote this destination to attract more tourist.

Constructions is the penultimate major sectoral linkage within the resort. It is considered a

backward linkage. With construction more houses can be built on the lands of the resort which

can therefore generate more revenue in the business while creating opportunities for many local

Guyanese to work and have an impact into building these houses. This is a form of attraction that

consist of various housing styles to meet the needs of business as well as the tourist…
Impacts

Two major impacts that will be closely looked at are social and environmental respectively.

Whereas environmental impact is the positive effects caused by a development, industrial or

infrastructural project in the environment, while social impact is the effect an organization have

on the wellbeing of the community.

One environmental impact would be the building of more houses to accommodate more visitors.

This can be both positive and a negative impact visa versa. It’s a positive impact because the

unused land would be utilized to build homes, other hotels to accommodate more people and to

generate more revenue, with this also the land would be more utilized rather than wasted. It

would also be negative considering the fact that there would be less vegetation and fruit trees in

area and with trees around there would be a more oxygenated environment and more agriculture

produce which and be beneficial for employment. In other words, the building of houses on the

unused land has both negative and positive impact to the environment itself

The social impact would insist on the effects on host communities of direct and indirect relations

with tourist and the interaction with the tourism industry. Splashmins resort as tourist destination

generates positive impacts socially whereby the business provides employment for local

residents living nearby the resort to assist them from having to move to another location for a

job. This would then therefore foster a better relationship with the residents and the business

while providing opportunities for the locals.

Recommendations

1. There must be more life guards at the beach and not one. Life guards are the most

important person at the beach, they have to look out for any danger that may occur at the

beach. For instance, if multiple persons are drowning in the beach at different locations

one person cannot look at everyone at the same time, and this would send a negative

message to the resort and many people would not want to come back again.

2. The beach need to cleared from many obstacles. At the beach there was many garbage,

broken bottles, animal faeces and grass around the beach. It was terrible at eye sight and

the smell was very unpleasant to the nose. Therefore, if many people want to come out

and enjoy their time at the beach, they would come and meet those obstacles and resist

from coming at the beach. This can cause a poor review from the visitors and they would

not want to come back and visit.

3. Proper rules and regulations must be put in place in order to sustain the environment and

if any person resist from respecting the rules, they must be fined. With rules in place the

environment can be sustained efficiently for future generations

4. Since there is a lot of houses around, they must try to maintain the appearance of the

houses especially those of the famous Guyanese that used to live there and have a quality

time. In addition, there are many tourist and locals that would want to visit the resort and

explore what the resort has to offer, therefore they must

Conclusion

Sustainable tourism is the concept of visiting somewhere as a tourist and trying to make a positive impact on

the environment, society, and economy. The sustainability of Splashmins Resort as tourism destination for

attraction is essential for the country’s growth in many aspects, due to the positive impact it has on the

environment, society and economy. Splashmins Resort a local owned sole proprietor, business own by

Mr. Lennox John. In addition, Splashmins consist of three major inter-sectorial linkages namely Events/

Entertainment, construction and recreation. The investigation to which sustainability of tourism is present

in the establishment of the resort is exceptional but there are still some advancements to be made because

of their negative impacts inflicted. As tourist should not wait until something happens to start practicing

sustainable tourism try to make your positive impact today.
