First and foremost, let us talk about why operational analysis is important
especially in the field of engineering. Well, operational analysis is significant for two
reasons: first is in identifying opportunities for efficient decision making and second is
for establishing rooms for improvement. Operational analysis helps us to explore
different areas where we could foster innovation and make businesses prosper. It seeks
to answer questions like “What is the most efficient call routing system for a contact
center?” or “Where is the best location to build an ambulance station?”. Also, one of the
main goals of operational analysis is to build improvements to anything that already
exists but could be enhanced or strengthened to provide best results.

In this diagram, you can see the role of operational analysis in business growth.
When done efficiently and effectively, operational analysis ultimately leads to
productivity and profitability. How and why? It is because operational analysis embodies
different components that deal with the following but not limited to 1) production
efficiency 2) effective utilization of resources, 3) capacity management, 4) management
of inventory, 5) create strong operation skills and 6) improvement of working conditions.
SLIDE 4
Now, we’ve been talking too much about operational analysis. What is it really
about? It is the study of an operation or group of related operations for the purpose of
analyzing their efficiency and effectiveness so that improvements can be developed
relative to specified objectives.
SLIDE 5
Speaking about objectives, operational analysis aims to: first, increase productivity by
looking into the elements and ensuring that every step of the operation is done
productively. Second is reduce time and cost because in doing so, we are making
businesses more profitable by increasing sales and cutting off activities and expenses
that only add up to the costs. Lastly and more importantly is to improve safety and
quality which will eventually determine the best results and what specific measures are
obtained to ensure safety and quality of products.

There are few important questions to ask in analyzing operations. The most relevant
are:
1) Improve the methods by asking “what” like what needs to be done or what needs to
be eliminated in the process to provide best results
2) Focus on the purpose of operation by asking “why” such as your target market, the
relevance of the product or project in the society and the like
3) Focus on the design, materials, tolerances, processes and tools by asking “how”
4) Focus on the operator and work design by asking “who”
5) Focus on the layout of work by asking “where” considering some safety measures
and necessary features of the place
6) Focus on the sequence of manufacture by asking “when”. Provide a timeline of
production to ensure that specific operational goals are met at the end of the day
SLIDE 7
In the field of engineering, operational analysis is often confused with the concept of
methods engineering since both deal with “production processes”. Hence it must be
noted that operational analysis is one technique for accomplishing the goals of methods
engineering by examining the different aspects of operation.

Here are some aspects of operation.
SLIDE 9
Almost everything we see around us undergo a production process from the household
tools we use every day and down to the public structures that surround us like the
buildings, roads and bridges, facilities etc. Hence, operational analysis is fundamental to
every operation or process because all of these will not come to existence if the
operations behind such are ineffective.
SLIDE 10
This is why operational analysis is the key to every successful project or invention.
Without it, failures may occur and there will be no improvements for the betterment of
the technology, society and the world at large.

That will be all for this report. Thank you and God bless!
