LIFE LESSONS DURING PANDEMIC

The most important life lessons that I’ve learned during the COVID-19 pandemic are

taking care of myself especially my mental health, devote more time to self, prioritizing my

relationships with family and friends, helping those in need and be aware to the surroundings and

issues. Moreover, I have learned the value of freedom-to move, to express feelings or opinions

and such. I have learned also the great importance of the role of medical professionals in our

society, the delivery personnel, and workers in supermarkets, farmers, fishermen, cashier, and

many other front liners who are busy serving the nation although they were undervalued while

we are staying at home. Above all, it opened my eyes to the real purpose of our politicians and

government- that they should be held accountable because of their obligation to our nation and

dear countrymen. I know that it is not easy for us especially, those who were affected most, those

lying in hospitals and have sick. Definitely, this pandemic has made me realize how much I

missed social interaction and things I used to do. It made me realized many things – like I should

not take my health habits for granted, I must show love to the important people in my life

because we don’t have an idea until when we can be with them. I also appreciate everything that

I have even the simplest one. I am grateful because we are safe and healthy and we have food to

serve on our tables.

Before pandemic, we usually have a one week vacation for a family reunion to get

together during Holy week. We visit churches, stay on our province for three days and the rest is

for going outside, eat favorite hometown food, share stories, etc. I also shared a bonding moment

with my friends like what we used to do after exams. We normally celebrated our

accomplishment and hard works after hell week and end of the semester as a reward to ourselves

because we successfully did it. It is also our way to motivate ourselves to keep on fighting, one
step at a time. Travelling also from home to school is very nostalgic, the same with the university

stay for more than eight hours a day.

For this reason, since Covid-19 is now the fundamental problem not just here in our

country but also with the rest of the world, all we can do is to be aware, prioritize our health,

support each other and continue to adapt in a new normal. Bear on our mind that we have to be

responsible and disciplined on our actions because it is a key to control the spread of virus. I

used the above lessons and experiences to spread kindness and generosity to the old and

vulnerable. More importantly, I will educate myself in any social happenings or issues so that I

will engage myself in a healthy discussion. And also, I will be vocal to fight for the oppressed.
