    ABOUT:

    ➢ Lalbagh Botanical Garden or shortened Lalbagh, is an old botanical garden in


    Bengaluru, India. First planned and laid out during the dalavaiship of Hyder Ali
    and later adorned with unique plant species by his son Tippu, it was later
    managed under numerous British Superintendents before Indian
    Independence.

    ➢ Lalbagh Road, Wilson Garden, Near BMTC

    LAYOUT:
    CHARACTERISTICS

    ➢ Lalbagh is a 240 acres (0.97 km2) garden and it holds


    two flower shows and has over 1,000 species of plants
    with many trees that are more than a hundred years
    old.
    ➢ The garden adjoins one of the towers erected by the
    founder of Bengaluru, Kempe Gowda.
    ➢ The park has some rare species of plants brought
    from Persia, Afghanistan and France. With an intricate
    watering system for irrigation, this garden is
    aesthetically designed, with lawns, flowerbeds,
    lotus pools and fountains. Most of the centuries-old
    trees are labelled for easy identification.
    ➢ Four statues of Wadiyar within carpets of blooms and
    several instruments like the veena, piano and violin
    have been fashioned to indicate the erstwhile ruler’s
    passion for Indian and Western classical music.
    FEATURES:

    1. The Glass House

    The Glass House in the Lalbagh Botanical Garden is one of its


    primary attractions. Modelled after the Crystal Palace in
    London, this Glasshouse is a huge structure made of glass
    and iron which houses some of the rarer species of plants.
    A flower show is conducted two times every year inside the
    glasshouse- once in January and another time in August-
    where guests are welcome to come and witness some of the
    most beautiful flowers and plants from all over the world.

    2. Lalbagh Rock

    Lalbagh Rock is definitely one of the most


    striking attractions in the garden. The rock is a National
    Geological Monument, placed in the garden by the
    Geological Survey of India. A small placard outlining
    information about the rock claims that it is over 3000
    million years old, making it one of the oldest rocks in the
    whole world.
    3.The Floral Clock

    The Floral Clock is a large natural clock composed of various flower


    plants and shrubs, measuring 7 m in diameter. It is placed in a garden
    that is also decorated with figurines from Snow White and the Seven
    Dwarfs, making it an interesting place for both adults and children to
    relax

    4. Lalbagh Lake

    Lalbagh Lake is a natural lake located just alongside the garden


    whose presence allowed the construction of the garden in the first
    place. Visitors can try out boating and picnics beside the lake, making
    it the ideal place to relax, despite being in the heart of the city
    ENTRANCE:

    ➢ Lalbagh has four gates The western gate is situated


    near Siddapura Circle and one can enter this gate
    and enjoy the sylvan atmosphere of the garden.

    ➢ The north western wall adjoins Krumbiegal Road


    named after G.H. Krumbiegal, the last pre-
    Independence Superintendent.

    ➢ The eastern gate has a wide road with Jayanagar


    close by. The southern gate is often referred to as a
    small gate and opens near Ashoka pillar.

    ➢ The northern gate is a fairly wide and big road


    leading to the Glass House and serves as the primary
    entrance.
