3. The Malaysia International College (MIC) University recently uses an online system for
students’ intake and courses registration for the first time. Students need to pay their
registration fees through a designated bank. Once payment has been made, then
students can proceed with the online registration. Students need to register at student
portal by keying in their name, semester, student id, payment reference number and
subject taken for the semester. Once registered, staff in Academic Department will
check and print the course registration forms for validation. The forms are then given to
the Program Coordinator to identify the number of students in each class for every
subject. Students are also given two weeks to add or drop courses with approval from
designated advisor.
Since, all staff has no experience in handling online course registration before this, many
complaints received by the students and staff. Sorting out the registration form is a
cumbersome work for the staff because of the high number of students registered. The
online system itself is not reliable and stable as students need to try multiple times due
to login failure. This make the process slow and consume more times compared to the
previous semester. Top management of MIC has decided to conduct a study to find out
the weaknesses of the systems for improvement. They also are very concern in
improving the security of the system to protect students’ data.
