Aanhin ang Masarap na Ulam Kung Wala Naman ang Magulang by Eric Perreras is a visual illustration
contrasting emotions of joy and contentment and sadness and longing. The artist Perreras is trying to show different
contexts that are very much relatable to the society today, to which he shows two subjects in the forms of two kids
siting in a cross-legged position in opposite directions to each other. Both subjects have food and clothing but the
difference is that the other kid has complete clothing with shoes on and fancier food while the other one are only
wearing shorts, bear footed and eating ready-to-go and a very affordable food which is the canned sardine and the
handful of rice. It can be implied that there is a portrayal of the concept of the rich and the poor. The canned sardines
and the handful of rice are the type of food that simple families eat on day-to-day basis, whilst a roasted chicken is
the kind of food that simple families only buy when there are special occasions because it costs way more than their
normal food. If you compare closely to the physical attributes of the two kids the kid on the right has brown skin, he
is a little skinny but he has a toned body with muscles. Based on his physique, the kid on the right may also have
only little amount of food to feed his body regularly, which may explain why he’s a little bit skinny. The other kid
has a fair skin and looks a little healthier than the other one which implies that he may be served more than enough
food on a regular basis and he may not have enough people to play with or do recreational activities under the sun,
this physical attributes of the subjects shows another portrayal of the marginalized and the privileged and the lonely
and the loved. On the emotional aspect, the kid wearing a t-shirt is frowning while sitting in a slouching posture and
staring at his food, which portrays that the he is looking for something more than delicious foods while the other kid
is sitting in an upright position and he smiles while looking to his food and this shows the simple joy and
contentment.
