    Salat

    Status/importance of salat:

    2nd pillar, greatest pillar after shahadah,

    Muadh to yemen: Prophet said to focus on tawhid (first thing to call them to) then if they become
    muslim then teach them about prayer

    Another hadith: ‘Umood (backbone/pillar/foundation) of the deen/religion, meaning deen would


    collapse without it

    Another hadith: first question on qiyamah, if salat accepted then the rest of the deeds will be accepted

    Location salat was made prescribed: isra wal-ma’raaj

    Always wajib on the muslim, even if sick, in coma (make it up later), other pillars have conditions
    (fasting, hajj, zakat)

    Emotional effect of salat:

    “sooth us with the prayer oh bilal”,

    to seek assistance thru patience and salat

    Difference between muslim and nonmuslim: hadith, the covenant between us and them, whoever
    abandons salat has committed kufr (major kufr, leaves islam). Consensus of Companions: abandonment
    of salat makes on kafir (disbeliever).

    Abandonment of salat definition: difference in opinion: in fath albari, ibn rajab and ibn baaz (one prayer
    intentionally), ibn uthaymeen (leaves salat altogether, stronger opinion). Danger of situation.

    Secrets of salat

    Reflect on Wudu: purification (tahara) of the soul

    Surah maida ayat 6: why Allah made wudu compulsory, goal is purification (heart’s purification)

    Sins falling off during wudu

    Appearance: best of state, best clothes, smell best, miswak

    Purification of heart: cleanse of heart

    1) Implementing and perfecting tawheed, everything is for His purpose


    2) Iman bil qadr, believe in the good and evil, say al-hamdulilah to everything (qadr Allah). Affair of
    the believer is strange/ajeeb (everything that happens is good for a believer), good says
    alhamdulilah, bad/evil happens then patience resulting in reward
    3) Strong belief in the hereafter. Focus on the hereafter: focus on jannah, no attachment to this
    world, attachment to akhirah
    4) All of the other ibadat, Recitation of Quran, Zikr (remembrance of Allah), tongue constantly
    moist with zikr of Allah

    Facing the qiblah: blessed as a ummah to face makkah, place of barakah, safety

    Standing on day of judgment

    Takbeer: Allah is akbar (is he truly akbar in your hearts). Muhasabah of salaf: holding yourself
    accountable before bed.

    Placement of hands: hands on chest, type of humbleness, reminds of humility in all aspects of life

    Duas of istiftah: different types of duas, hikmah is that it doesn’t become mundane

    Goal of dua is like an introduction/warm up, taking you from the ghaflah into focus

    Seeking refuge from shaytan: enter a battle, constant battle in life but especially in salat because he
    understands the importance of salat. Imam ahmed RA said, What u gain from salat is like what u will
    gain in the hereafter, the success in your prayer will equal the success of hereafter

    Bismillah: reminder that this act of worship is for Allah, everything is for Allah

    Surah Fatihah: ummul quran, salat not accepted if not recited, why so important: comprehensive, deep,
    reflect on it

    Rukooh/Sujood: Greatness of Allah, only for Allah

    Salam: Angels on both sides, reminder of angels on both sides
