First Speaker

Good afternoon to the chairperson, opposition and audience. My name is

_________________ and I will be the first speaker to speak about the topic today
which is ‘Living in a city is better than living in a village’. We will first define the topic.
Living in a city can be defined as staying in a large important town while living in a
village is staying in a very small town at a countryside. We the government team
believe that this statement is true based on several reasons that will be discussed
later.

Nowadays, Malaysia is growing rapidly not only in terms of economics and

education but technology as well. In the city, when we see the skyscrapers standing
around us, we will understand that the process of urbanisation has succeeded in
developing cities in Malaysia to form a modern landscape. Therefore, we must
appreciate and appreciate the benefits of living in the city. I am going to discuss two
points to stand up our opinion. My first point is about educational facilities provided in
a city. City is a place where most of our higher education institution have been
placed. These institutions offer variety of courses for different range of learners
starting from kindergarten up to university level which a village does not. People also
can further their study in private colleagues if they are not qualified for public
institutions. Therefore there are no reasons for saying ‘no’ to further the study
because a city has it all.

Besides, these educational institutions usually have enough and up-to-date

facilities such as internet connections, smart board and libraries with lots of
references for the respective subjects. Let us take examples of educational places
such as the National Museum, University of Malaya and National Library. These
locations are popular in terms of educational discussions such as seminars,
conventions, congresses and colloquiums. This situation somehow has made city a
centre of knowledge that allows many foreign students to come to Malaysia to further
their studies. In this way, everyone can add knowledge and further enhance their
knowledge and experience.

Next, my second point is about socialisation. In an area containing millions of

people, finding a social event to attend is never difficult. There is unlimited potential
for social interactions in the city on a daily basis. Find parties to attend at museums
and art galleries, or donate time to a charity or non-profit in your area of interest.
Meeting people is an effortless task in a big city. The diversity of major metropolitan
areas allows you to broaden your spectrum of personal and professional
relationships. Learning about other cultures and discovering shared interests with
someone from a different background helps you grow into a more open and
understanding individual. A social lifestyle in an urban area will expand your horizons
and make interactions more meaningful. So chairperson and my beloved friends,
based on the point that I had elaborated, we believe that living in the city is better
than in village. Thank you.
Second Speaker

Good afternoon Madam Chairperson, opposition and friends. The topic for our
debate today is ‘Living in the city is better than in the village’. We the government
team believe that this statement is true.

Our first speaker has already stated that living in the city has more benefits as
it provides conducive educational facilities. Other than that, city people has more
opportunities to socialise more through formal and informal events. Today I will be
explaining more reasons why we are saying that city life is better. One of them is
science and technological aspects. Science and technology are also particularly
emphasized in the cities. If we go to the "Old Town White Coffee" cafe, there is a
free Wi-Fi service. Today, modern gadgets like IPod and IPad are often used by the
public to surf the internet for themselves. Everywhere there are people who carry a
laptop. This suggests that digital and virtual connections are often used. In addition,
people in the city are more exposed to current developments. A nine-year-old city
child can already master the good of the internet, browse the "Facebook" and
"Twitter" websites.

Moreover, improvement in technological aspects can be widely seen in city

area especially when we look in terms of transportation. Driving everywhere can be a
burden in a city of any size. Big cities often lack sufficient parking or charge high
rates for the available parking options. But public transportation options fill this void,
making owning a car in a big city unnecessary. Whether traveling by taxi, subway, or
bus, you can reach your destination in a city for a reasonable price, without the
hassle of searching for a parking spot. Many city dwellers combine transportation
with exercise, preferring to walk or ride a bike around town. Whether you’re looking
for a quick, stress-free way to navigate around town or want a way to drastically cut
down on the expense of getting around, big city public transportation is the obvious
choice. The impact of science and technology has improved the image of the city
and are able to compete internationally and thus formed a more scientific and
modern society.

Another reason why city life is better is due to economic centres. In Kuala
Lumpur, which is an important capital for economic development, have become the
most popular locations for property business, plantation, equity owners of the
government such as Petronas, Shell Headquarters and others to run their business
and place the major headquarters. These places are the centres of development and
creation centres that will be able to boost the economic sectors of the city and the
country. Employment chances will be widely open and this can indirectly eliminate
unemployment and poverty problems will not rise. With a growing economy,
everyone can feel the mutual benefit. Therefore, many people love coming to the city
to find higher incomes. So chairperson and friends, in conclusion city life will give
more opportunities to people to expose themselves more towards the development
of science and technology as well as economic. Thank you.
Third Speaker

Good afternoon Chairperson, opposition and friends. To repeat, the topic for our
debate today is ‘Living in the city is better than in the village’. We the government
team strongly believe that this statement is true.

Our first speaker has already stated that living in the city has more benefits as
it provides conducive educational facilities. Other than that, city people has more
opportunities to socialise more through formal and informal events. Next, the second
speaker had mentioned that science and technology are being emphasized in the
cities. Besides city is the place where economic activities take place. Now I will
explain the fifth reason why we the government team believe that city life is better
than the village. For us, medical care in rural areas simply cannot compete with the
options available in a big city. Most people living in remote regions travel dozens of
miles to visit a doctor, and specialist visits could become an overnight trip. Living in a
big city gives you the opportunity to receive the highest calibre of medical care
without traveling hours from your home. Villages may have a local doctors' clinic, but
cities often have multiple hospitals and doctors specializing in even rare conditions.
In a city, ambulances and fire trucks may take only minutes to arrive at the scene. In
villages, getting to a hospital in an emergency may take precious time. In cities,
police are readily accessible. When crime is committed, police arrive on the scene
quickly and have access to the latest technology to solve the crime.

Competition in cities drives medical centres to hire only the most

knowledgeable staff, ensuring the finest care for you. More than a dozen hospitals in
the city area are nationally ranked for the quality of their medical care and superior
staff. When it comes to finding a doctor in big cities, you have unparalleled options
and resources to get the care you need. Even though city provides numerous
advantages, opponents would argue that city life is full of hardships especially at the
workplace, polluted environment, noise pollution, unfair competition among
businesses, crimes and immorality, all these problems can be solved since they
majorly emanate from an individual’s thinking and behaviour. All in all with positive
thinking and cohesion with the social setups in the city, people are guaranteed more
benefits and improved life as they wish. Furthermore, the good life is enhanced
through interactions at workplaces, eating areas, social amenity locations among
others where people of different ethnic backgrounds meet.

In conclusion, city life has been of greater benefits in terms of development,

education, technology. Therefore, there has been an influx and migration of people
and other job seekers in cities. This has led to overcrowding. However, there have
been immense programs that encourage depopulation of cities such as the rural
development programs. Even though these activities are constantly taken for right
purposes, the advantages of the city life are greater than the rural life. So Chairman
and friends, we the government team strongly believe that living in the city is better
than in a village. Thank you.
