Lesson 40: Subject Pronouns LEARN = A subject pronoun takes the place of anoun or nouns in the subject of a sentence. |, he, she, and it are singular subject pronouns. We and they are plural subject pronouns. You can be singular or plural. Last summer, Juan went to Florida. He hiked in a park there. Uncle Luis and Aunt Sonia took Juan on the trip. They hiked many miles. A pronoun’s antecedent is the noun the pronoun refers to. Notice that in each pair of sentences above, the pronoun agrees in number with its antecedent. & Ina sentence, the subject pronoun and the present-tense verb must agree in number. Use a singular verb with a singular pronoun. Use a plural verb with a plural pronoun. Many verbs with an -s at the end are singular and without the -s are plural. © Add -s or -es to a verb if the subject pronoun is he, she, or it. If the verb ends in y, change the y to i before adding -es. She studies a map of Everglades National Park.
