Activity 2 - Integrating Technology
Activity 2 - Integrating Technology
Gelito
Task: Using the SAMR model, describe at least 10 technology tools you have used or are
currently using in terms of the level of integration. Discuss how you intend to improve on the
effective and efficient integration of each tool in your plan for instruction.
1. MS Excel
MS excel is a spreadsheet program which can be used for data analysis.
It has many mathematical and statistical functions that can aid users in their
spreadsheet activities. I can integrate MS Excel in teaching students how to plot
points in Cartesian System and create basic graphs such as line and parabola with
given data points. Another integration of MS Excel in instruction is by using it in
making crossword puzzle, since I like giving game-like assessments. Similarly, I can
create traditional assessments such as multiple-choice test or Binary choice test
(such as true or false type) as formative assessments where answers of the students
can automatically be checked as they enter it, thus giving them an immediate
feedback.
2. Facebook
Facebook is a popular free social networking site. One can use Facebook for
academic purposes using its FB Closed Group. I am planning to have a Closed
Group for every class I have since most, if not all students are registered users of this
SNS. This means I can be able to easily connect with them even with geographical
distance between us. Discussions in the class can be extended in CG by having a
thread of comments and responses. Video of lessons and class documents can also
be uploaded here. Since it is a closed group, only those who are in the group can see
whatever is happening inside that group, which provides a level of privacy. Videos,
documents, and discussions in the group can be viewed only by its members.
3. Messenger
Messenger is a fast and data-efficient messaging app which can be used to connect
with people. In this time of pandemic, this communication app has been very helpful
to the teachers in reaching out to their students. In fact, I was able to conduct online
classes to a small group of class using the videocall feature of the app. Documents,
pictures and videos can also be uploaded and downloaded easily in this app. Thus,
forming a group chat for the class for academic/instructional purposes.
4. YouTube
YouTube is a free video sharing website where one can watch online videos. It
contains engaging and informative educational videos that can be used by teachers
in supplementing their lessons. With millions of videos in YouTube, a teacher can
pick the most appropriate video to enhance discussion of lessons. One can also
create an account in YouTube and post videos of lessons the students can access
anytime.
5. Zoom
Skype is a cloud-based video communications app that allows one to set up virtual
video and audio conferencing, webinars, live chats, screen-sharing, and other
collaborative capabilities. With this, videoconferencing with students can now be
easily done without entailing so much cost. With zoom, school orientation with new
students and conferencing with parents without them actually going to the school.
6. Canva
Canva is a graphic design platform, used to create social media graphics,
presentations, posters, documents and other visual content. It is designed to be an
online graphic design and publishing platform. With Canva, I can ask the students to
create their own learning plan based on the syllabus presented to them and allow
them to consciously and actively plan how they are going to about the course.
7. Word Cloud
Word Clouds are visual representations of words that give greater prominence to
words that appear more frequently. This can be very helpful in assessing students’
concept for a particular lesson or topic. It can be a good introductory part in the
lesson allowing students to think of as many words as they can associate to the
topic, thus, a teacher can know what the students know before teaching the lesson
and can observe possible misconceptions that can be addressed in the lesson proper
8. Google Forms
Google Forms is a web-based app used to create forms for data collection purposes.
Data gathered using the form is typically stored in a spreadsheet. This app can be a
very good tool in helping students understand the ways of research from posing
meaningful research questions, selecting a sample using appropriate techniques,
designing questionnaires and collecting data from the respondents.
9. Socrative
Socrative is a quiz-based, formative assessment tool with multiple features that can
enrich teaching and learning. Students can take quizzes which will immediately give
them feedback as to how they performed in the assessment. It also allows the
students to keep trach of their progress in the class. It has an interesting feature, the
Space Race, which can help students engage in different activities individually or
collaboratively.
10. Kahoot
Kahoot! is a game-based learning platform, used as educational technology in
schools and other educational institutions. With Kahoot, questions are projected on a
shared screen, while players answer the questions with their smartphone, tablet, or
computer; creating a social, fun and game-like environment. Students can take the
quiz other than the traditional paper-and-pen test. Feedback in the assessment can
also be made real-time per item, unlike in the traditional ways when teacher still have
to collect all papers and allot some time to check them as a whole.
