QUESTION 5: [20 Marks Total]

As shown in Figure 5, at the instant shown car A is traveling with a velocity of 30 m/s and has an
acceleration of 2 m/s2 along the highway. At the same instant B is traveling on the trumpet
interchange curve with a speed of 15 m/s, which is decreasing at 0.8 m/s2. Determine the relative
velocity and relative acceleration of B with respect to A at this instant.

QUESTION 7: [20 Marks

Total]

As shown in Figure 7, the 2-kg collar is given a downward velocity of 4 m/s when it is at A. If
the spring has an unstretched length of 1 m and a stiffness of k = 30 N/m, determine the velocity
of the collar at s = 1 m.

QUESTION 8: [20 Marks

Total]
As shown in figure 8, the motor winds in the cable with a constant acceleration, such that the
20 kg mass crate moves a distance s = 6 m in 3 s, starting from rest. Determine the tension
developed in the cable. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the crate and the plane is
μk = 0.3.
