LESSON 57

POETIC AND SIMPLE LANGUAGE.

1 POEM : Hold me to your willing heart

And let me—help me—weep

That I of need might fall apart

And then at last might sleep.

SIMPLE LANGUAGE: I cried that night before fell sleep.

2 POEM: I love to dwell in forest wild,

Where giant pine trees pierce the sky;

A beauty spot where Nature smiled,

A fitting place to live and die;

SIMPLE LANGUAGE: I love our mother nature.

3 POEM: When all the birds are faint with the hot sun,

SIMPLE LANGUAGE: The temperature is very hot.

4 POEM : In summer luxury,

SIMPLE LANGUAGE: The temperature is hot.

18 Fire-flicker red – or an unsteady movement of flame like a candle or flickering light
(like a police car/ambulance/fire brigade)

19 And when you’re angry Your head feels hot with anger (hot temper)

20 Red runs through your head.

21 Red is an Indian, Reference to the native American tribe

22 A Valentine heart. Romantic love

23 The trimmings on The bright red decorations on a circus cart

24 A circus cart.

25 Red is a lipstick The colour of lipstick that women love to wear

26 Red is a shout Loud call or cry (to show a strong emotion)

27 Red is a signal A warning of danger (to be on the look-out / to be alert)

28 That says: “Watch out!”

29 Red is a great big A big rubber ball


(small children are always attracted to a red ball)
30 Rubber ball.

31 Red is the giantest Red is the most widely seen colour around us / the colour that we

(‘giant’ already means very big. ‘giantest’ is just to make it sound


extremely big)

personal reasons)

boring without red as a colour in the world.
