First of all, I would like to express my sincere thanks and respect for you –Ms.

PREFACE

The present report is the outcome of the Internship program of the University of
Thu Dau Mot. The Objective of the internship program was to familiarlize the
student with the implementation of the knowledge they earned on the campus.
The practical knowledge is far different from the bookish knowledge that a
student achieves in an institution.

After reciving the internship recommendation letter of the the school, I was very
worried because I could not find a place to practise for myself. My teacher taught
in SAS English Center so I introduced me to the center to practice. And then, I
came and asked for an internship at SAS Center. It is located at 530 avenue. After
nearly two years of studying at school, the Knowledge of English major has been
relatively good but there are still many obstacles because I have not experienced
the reality. During the internship learning at the center , I realized that customer
care and teaching quality are very important to the success of the center and all
the center English mind in general.

This report is divided into several sections. In the first section, it í the
introductory part, namely, introduce the organization. After that is reflecting
writing. In this section, I will express my emotions during an internship , my
experience, how can I face and solve the problem. I will summarize the
experiences during the service learning in section three. And the last one is a
recommendation, I will give you some changes and Improvements should be
made to the subject and provide future students with pratical advice.

 Saigon American English was established in 2012. Currently, with a wide

range of facilities, New Generation English Language Center - SAIGON
AMERICAN ENGLISH (SAS) is the leading English language center in the
exclusive and communicative English teaching method of learning CLASS-
CLUB – TOUR, licensed by the Ministry of Education dynamic. With
 dynamic learning methods, SAS carries a mission to inspire students who
are fundamentally losing or not confident in communicating in English.
With a team of enthusiastic teachers and international standard teaching
experience (TESOL certificate).

Studying English SAS with unique learning methods has brought me outstanding
results. I not only developed the ability to communicate, but also learned many
necessary skills. The success I have now is partly due to SAS. With the quality of
teaching with international standards and modern centers across the country,
SAS offers courses for each age and level to help students with a solid English
background, increase communication ability and achieved high results in
international English exams.

The Vietnam Education, takes the motto of learning with practice’ as the guiding
principle for all educational activities. However, the fact the Vietnamese
universities in general are still limited in this combination, students after
graduation often do not meet the actual needs of society and lack of necessary
skills. To be able to fulfil their tasks well and succeed in life, can become good
citizens. There are very few social and educational studies that address the issue
of educating students about the sense of civic responsibility for the community in
Vietnam. Meanwhile, at many universities around the word, the issue of
educating citizenship, participating in community activities is always focused
throughout the university training program through the following ideas, I will
explain ‘what is Service Learning?’ and what I learn through this subject.

What is Service Learning?

Service learning is an educational approach that combines learning objective

community service in order to provide a pragmatic, progressive learning while
meeting societal need.

Service learning involves students in service projects to apply classroom local

agencies that exist to affect positive change in the community. The Youth
Leadership council defines that is used as a philosophy, pedagogy model for
community development that is used as an instructional strategy to learning
goals and content standards’
"Service-learning is a form of experiential education where learning occurs
through a cycle of action and reflection as students work with others through a
process of applying what they are learning to community problems, and at the
same time, reflecting upon their experience as they seek to achieve real objectives
for the community and deeper understanding for themselves" Eyler and Giles,
(1999).

Service Learning, as defined by Robert Sigmon, 1994:'Service-LEARNING:

Learning goals primary; service outcomes secondary', The purpose of service
learning is, in essence, to, "equally benefit the provider and the recipient of the
service as well as to ensure equal focus on both the service being provided and
the learning that is occurring." Volunteerism, community service, internships, and
field education all exemplify, in some way or another, the core value of service
learning, as all of them benefit the student as well as the one they served to an
equal degree, the only difference being how material the benefit is. These
methods also tend to focus on ensuring that the student not only serves, but
learns something, whether it is interpersonal skills, work experience in their
future field,or a change in how they view themselves and others.

What issue are so important you be willing to ofer to see a change made?

According to Janet Eyler(1994) and Dwight E.Giles – Professor Emeritus of Higher

Education, College of Education and Human Development Senior Associate with
the New England Resource Center of Higher Education, There are numerous
benefits to the service learning approach. It provides experiential learning that
connect personal and interpersonal development with cognitive and academic
advanxement, providing opportunities for person connections and ultimately
transformation. Those serving may encounter certain social problems for the first
time, thus transforming their vew on the world.

Beyond that, students may be transformed in the way of developing better

problem-solving skill to address those prolems about which they now know.A
service-learning experience may be the catalyst in the life of a students to dive
into the complexities of the social issues thay have encountered and seek to
develop innovative solutions. Service learning combines both experiential
learning and community service.

I think students need to be physically touches to gain more experience for

learning and in life.Students will be more confident in communcation, forming
better problem-sovling abilities. Moreover, service learning also helps students
develop leaderdhip skills and help students form a habit of planing to improve
the local community.

What would people of our ages do to the world in a positive way?

From my person point of view, for you of the same age as i want the world to be
positive, first each person must be a positive individual. You don’t have to do
extraodinary things like a superhero but instead we will live more responsibly to
your life and he;p those aroumd you in your own way. For student like us, i thinks
of raising funds to support people with disabilities, teaching English to children in
love classes so that they have the opportunity to interact with ‘second language’
of the world, enviroment protection: limiting plastic bags, limiting plastic waste,...
and most of all,learning well, living and working under the law, no individual can
change the world, but if 7 billion people in the word are more active, this world
has become much more positive.

In 2009, psychology research Michalle Steger found that meaning work makes
people happier and more effective in their daily lives.

What do you think might happen during this project?

i think, because this is the first time i go to intership, i might face many thing
ahead of me. Firstly, because being exposed to a completely new enviroment, it is
difficult to avoid erros when working together and of course there are times
when we don’t have the same views. Sexondly, thanks to this intership, i can
indentify my strengths and weakness and fix it. Because, i intend to have some
things that i will experience during my intership such as training , cleaning, and
attending other classes of letures from 6-8 perids, exchangeing apply for
experience, do internship reports.
What are you looking foward to?

i expect that during the internship, i will gain more experience in actual know
how to handle problem, develop team working skills and know how to practise
and exchange in the proccess of communcate, trainees do not have much time to
practise at the facilities.

What are you nervous about?

I was a bit worried because i didn’tknow what to do to help everyone

communicate English. And i don’t know how to understand the thinks of the adult
don’t know if kids are good or bad, and they like me or not i think i have to
prepare carefully for this.

What do you usually you might learn from this project?

After this project, I found that I have learned a lot of things , such as service
learning, how to adapt to the working environment, learning different ways of
teaching through lesson hours and pros and cons. Point of those teachers as well
as of themselves. And learning how to organize, organize and personal lesson
plan. On the other hand, I also learned how to teach and stand class, improve
specialized and other soft skill to serve future learning.
REFLECTIVE WRITING

February 20th, 2019

The first day I went to practice and took the job. Everything is new to me. When I
entered in systerm, I was accepted into the internship position to check your level
to see where everyone's English level was and then put it into the appropriate
class to study difficult. The first days I was only helped, how people do, learn
how to do it and can be in charge of it later on. Quoc 'he taught and what I need to
do. I wrote myself on paper to remember it , I was accepted into an internship in a
friendly place, when the students came to use simple sentences to greet and
taking students to the classroom to exchange information about the learning
environment. During this whole day I learned a lot of interesting things. In
particular, the way of dealing in communication.

February 21st, 2019

A new day of the second day goes to practice, continue with watching the
brothers and sisters and helping, then help the students with questions. Every
day is like that. Everything in the office hasn't changed, so now the teacher comes
in and says 'hello Mss/ Mr' talking in English about taking care of students
starting from the most basic. Being an intern can only support simple tasks and
sometimes go to class to see how teachers teach. Going to class to see how to
teach in school? Learn how to connect with fellow students because most of
school are practitioners. One day learning many things for myself.

February 25th , 2019

At 9am, but I arrived 10 minutes early, people who had not arrived at that time
looked around me to notice that the campus was small. Wait a minutes,
counsellor and telesales siblings come to open the door, started mixing water
and plugging back flowers, arranging the syllabus on the table, photo level tests to
test how well that person is and then put it into class. Then, take the elevator card
to swipe up and open the classroom and other equipment, and after finishing
those things, start sitting at the table and begin to get used to the test and write
the most common sentences to be able to say. After that, practice consulting on
the school and key model flyers and see how you work to follow. The work is like
that, just study, nothing changes, she instructs again. Every few hours someone
will come to consult the school. Just practice, and find it hard and overwhelming
for me.

March 1st , 2019

Today, working at 17:00 I went to school, so I went to the school to practice so I

was late for a few minutes, went to my desk to open the computer and continued
to open leader to see the counsel schedule today, it seems that today there are
many people come to test. Many students come to study. So I have to support
writing cards, taking students to class, asking how the learning situation is
whether the teacher is suitable for me or not. Running up and down to support
the students who were tired , Then start to sit and practice using the daily
communication patterns to get when the students come to the test can help you.
Every day I train myself to try to learn from you, see how to work, but I only see
pressure and fatigue. Because my English is limited, not very good

March 3rd , 2019

In the afternoon at 4pm, every weekend on the Sunday, the center will have a
club. I came to assist the collaborators to arrange tables and chairs, speakers and
whiteboards.... then when the students came to the place and interacted with
people in English, common communication sentences . Visiting foreign teachers
and Vietnamese teachers, Start with the topic of travel, divided into four groups,
and then let you discuss the topic. Then give out paper that provides vocabulary
for everyone to easily use while speaking. At the end, there is a small part of the
game where each person introduces themselves then the teacher will ask a
question that if not answered, it will be punished. Everyone is very happy to join
this club and I learned more new things, provided more vocabulary, and was able
to communicate with the environment so that I could speak English better.
March 5th, 2019

One Tuesday morning of a new week I started with the job of reopening the
workplace, opening the computer to work, then having to get used to the job of
checking the students' abilities when Come to register to learn how to arrange
them at any level, you must practice how to communicate confidently showing
that you are a good person who can speak English well because when people
come here to have good English, create a heart Believe me when I come here, and
use English a lot while working to help me improve my English skills. After that,
the teachers came to receive the class list, followed by opening the class and
bringing the teachers and students to the class. And back to work is learning and
practicing how to master the most common English use.

March 7th, 2019

This morning started another practice session, because today there was a lesson
at school, so it was 10 minutes late, you went to the desk and I just arrived and
when you went to practice, everything was still nothing. The only change I had
was trying to learn him just to have a lot of experience in this job, starting to
work, I turned on the computer to check the names of the students that day and
went to school. he added to when the students came to check everyone's level.
Surprisingly, a friend came to me on that day and let me do a test of that person's
level. At that time, I was not very confident, there were many shortcomings, I did
not speak English well, I felt that I was not good enough to practice and learn to
speak English more.

March 10th, 2019

I joined my brothers and sisters at the school to join the English club at the
weekend until 4pm everyone came to the school and the Vietnamese teacher and
the native speaker came. I handed out the paper on the topic of the International
Women's Day, when it seemed like everyone was eager to hold the paper. The
teacher divided the group for the students to discuss the topic, you learn and
discuss in English, I also joined the participants to give their opinions on ten good
virtues of people. Every time I join the club I learn new vocabulary to give me
many new communication patterns, help me a little everyday to increase my
English skills.

March 12th , 2019

Today is Tuesday, I start with a new day with work as well as a duty as a
counselor to test everyone's English level when I want to learn English
communication, today I am at the same time To everyone, opening the door and
opening the computer started to remind the calendar of people who registered
the SAS site that needed to learn English, that day many people came to test, so I
side with all testers, I tested an extremely good English speaker at the time, and
my mind was extremely shy. At that time, I thought that if I tried to study English
well, I would not be so embarrassed. When I finished the test, I thought a lot, who
felt very sad, but they shared their shortcomings and gave me more suggestions
to overcome.

March 14th , 2019

Today, a beautiful day I started with work with joy, after many days of studying
you and drawing experience for myself, I learned more about English to
overcome my lack, My fellow students went to school and brought me to class
and asked about the situation of studying. Suddenly, my brother and I sent me to
observe the classroom of a Filipino teacher to give him a better communication.
In that class, the teacher said 100% is English, when I went in she told me to
introduce myself, that day I learned many new things, observed a class, the
students were all adults. However, there are some people who are not good at
learning, but seeing them I want to learn more.

March 17th, 2019

Today my weekend with the students joined the club on the weekends, I will
begin to rearrange the group for you, and the native teacher, when
communicating with him, his voice is extremely fast, and a Vietnamese teacher
named jelly. Today is mainly a teacher for students to join the game after so many
tired days, thereby providing a vocabulary for you, and being able to
communicate with your English, I with friends to talk and speak in English and
learn from those with higher qualifications to help me be confident in
communication. After finishing the club, the teacher helped me clean up. At that
time I asked a few words to get the best pronunciation, and asked questions to
learn new things.

March 19th, 2019

I worked today in the afternoon, when I looked at the very tired-looking older
brothers and sisters, who seemed to be very sleepy but still tried to do it. Since
the number of students coming to test today is low, I asked you to let me see the
Filipino class to learn more. When I went to her classroom , there were a few
people who came to that day to learn how to teach students how to understand
the lesson and especially I learned a new topic and corrected my pronunciation,
It was so fun to attend a class that speaks English so I wanted to be a teacher and
wanted to speak English quickly and fluently and always have the inspiration for
the students.

March 21st , 2019

Today I went to practice, when I got to the door, everyone was busy with the
work I came to support and my brothers and sisters, I took my seat and started to
test that fellow student and asked for information to know about The friend I
want to learn, I tried to speak confidently and comfortably to make the other
person feel that I am a good English speaker, I said to speak English and ask for
information about people. There was a happy conversation between the two and I
was very pleased with what I tried to gain the trust of everyone and I could do it, I
overcame my fear.

March 24th ,2019

Today afternoon is also the weekend, I join the students to join the club, first have
to prepare audio and distribute materials to you when joining the club. Today, the
topic is dating-speed, when it comes out. Everyone is surprised, like this topic.
Sheldon then talks about the topic and points out what you need, explaining the
whole new vocabulary to you so you can talk about that topic. Finally, the groups
gave their opinions on the topic and struggled with excitement, attracting the
eyes of many people. I joined everyone and joined the game. At the end of the
club, everyone was happy and wanted to join.

March 26th , 2019

Today, I went to the internship and the space today I feel a change .The highlight
is that there is a vase of sun flowers lying on the counsel desk, looking at it feels
really changing emotions. I immediately put the laptop on the table and then
turned on the phone and started calling people who have a schedule to test today
asking if they need assistance on the way. Then review the list of students who
went to school today. I continue to be managed by the manager to confidently tell
the students so that you do not know that you are not a bad person, I have to
always show my charisma, Especially, speaking English is not slow and wrong
pronunciation, start showing them what English parts there are to let them know
how to change and try harder. At the end of an internship I learned new things
and needed to renew myself.

March 28th , 2019

Today is the fifth day of the week, through many days of practice and learning I
have also learned many things and need to change. It was today that I felt
confident with myself that I could do it and was no longer afraid that I could not
do it, I started my work and helped my brothers and sisters when you needed
support. Today, students come to register for study, so they have tested people to
consider the class suitable for them. But after finishing the job, the manager said I
need to speak in a loud and clear voice. In particular, there must be intonation in
the sentence to help the listener not be bored. So I know what I need to fix and I
need to try harder not to be discouraged.

March 31st , 2019

Today is the day of joining the theme club is fool's day, the classmates join many
students. After that, the collaborators will support you to come and sit and divide
the group for you to easily interact with the teacher , Mr. Sheldon arranged the
topic and introduced the topic to let everyone know why there is a fool's day,
then provide vocabulary for everyone and fix pronunciation for everyone. The
beginning is for you to play a small game that discusses the problem, which team
will explain the best. After participating, I learned how to manage and learn new
vocabulary.

April 2rd , 2019

Today I went to practice, a new day with many new things. Today, everything a
blue sky, looking love and always enthusiastic at work. I turned on the computer,
while waiting to start up, I cleaned up my desk, and started the task of reminding
the students to attend the test, and photo the tests for the students. After that, I
went to open the classrooms, continued when the students came and took the
students up, asked the daily communication patterns so that the students could
always see the English environment to practice English speaking Many, every day
I get to use English, it is very interesting and taken care of for the students.

April 4th , 2019

Today, I went to the practice place to look around the door still closed, the staff
members still did not come, I waited for a long time when the students came,
everyone asked me, just in time, she came Opening the door, I went to the desk
and opened the lamp. I continued to work on my laptop on the phone for the
practitioners to come. Suddenly a friend came to the test, she told me that 'I
tested it to get used to it', I immediately handed the paper to her to fill in the
information to know how to address me, to start me in the English
communication. At first I only introduced myself then to her but it seems that she
is not confident in the conversation, a little embarrassed. I encouraged her and
advised her to introduce English. What we need and improve. At the end of the
test, I was very happy that I was very pleased with myself and did very well and
should need better.
April 7th ,2019

Today is the day I joined the club with fellow practitioners, it was very fun to
come to the club on the day I joined the club, today's topic is the death
anniversary of Hung Vuong , listening to things like I know but I don't know how
to use How to use and explain English. The students arranged and divided
themselves together to facilitate exchange of ideas with each other. Mr. Sheldon
explained why there is a Hung Vuong death anniversary, and provides a whole
new vocabulary to suggest more easy-to-talk about the topic. I sat at the table and
asked my friends to give an opinion to complete an essay. I participated in it, felt
very happy, learned many things and improved my vocabulary, and made new
friends to share each other's learning methods.

April 9th , 2019

Today, I went to the SAS , everyday place of mine. But every day for me there is
something new and I learn something new. I started with the work of every
practice session. But today I attended a Filipino teacher class to learn more ways
to communicate in English naturally, to know how to use the following sentence
as appropriate, You look at me as if I know I'm an employee of the system . While
studying, we have been to communicate and use other English communication
patterns to learn about each other. Every time I join the class, I feel like learning
how to communicate the lesson and how to pronounce it in the most appropriate
way

April 11th , 2019

Today is also the last day I practice. Walking to the room and desk every day I
made a little bit of a distraction, opened my laptop, while I started talking to
people, and wanted everyone's comments about me after how many days of
work, I still feel a bit sad when nearing the end of my practice. Then I took the
students to class and asked daily communication questions to ask the students. I
still remember you guys meeting every day talking to each other. I started work
but still thought about it in my head. A time is about to end I feel through how
many days I learn a lot about the system. Especially, change myself later to suit
each environment.
CONCLUSION

During 22 days of the internship process at SAS center . I was learned a lot of
knowledge and skills, I faced some problems that I have never been met at school.
Thanks to service learning, I can perceive my strengths and weaknesses.

From daily tasks and hours of classes, I found myself having weaknesses that I
needed to overcome. Firstly, my pronunciation skills. Although I am a students of
English language, but sometimes I mispronunciation the basic vocabulary that
made me feel embarrassed, but also very lucky that the students still did not
laugh me and they have always supported me very enthusiastically, which makes
me more determined to improve my pronunciation skills. Second, communication
skills in front of the crowd to express myself, through the early part of my
practice, this disadvantage is even more clearly revealed, I became more
embarrassed in contact with people, especially with strangers. I do not even dare
to talk to the staff of center even if I do not dare to speak confidently when I
introduce myself to teachers and students. But then, as time passed by, I
gradually got used to everything and also thanks to the encouragement of
everyone who become more confident, much bolder. I felt that was clearly
corrected after this internship.

Practicing helps me improve many things in studying, I am no longer afraid to

stand in front of foreigners when communicating, especially I learn to speak
English naturally. I realized that I still lacked the skill of arranging things, which
made me more worried about taking on many jobs at the same time. When I had
many improvements from the project, I now thought I could dealing with other
projects in the school as a presentation, I recently had to do one and I did not feel
very anxious to stand in front of many people, moreover, I was able to do a
project myself and I could Do all that with confidence and optimism. Not only
gave me many skills that I could use to complete all my projects at school, it also
provided me with social interaction skills with others in real-life situations, once.
I have to make a video that I have to talk to foreigners about some content , I can
talk to foreigners without being afraid that it may come when I talk to people
before.The internship have helped me to improve my weaknesses, when working
in the center, I have the chance to observe how the experience teacher control
their student and the way they present their lesson to the student and keep an
eye on them, how they make sure their students understand deeply about their
lesson, my strengths also have a place to show themselves, I’m kind of good at
speaking English and it’s fit for the content of SAS center.

At the same time, through this internship, I have improves my social interaction
skills significantly. Such as, cooperation skills develop together. This skill knows
the benefits and the ompotance of collaboration, knowing how to work in group
and the requirements required when working in teams to achieve the best
results. Secondly, the skills of presenting ideas, presenting their opinion in
discussions, helps me present my opinion more and more clearly and
convincingly in the communication process. Finally, communication skills behave
politely, this is considered an Important social skill for each person, it helps me
know how to communicate with people around me, say thanks you and apologize,
know how to deal with human beings, and know how to behave in a way that suit
every situation.

Although the internship time is short, the practice at the center makes me feel
more confident and patient and can improve many soft skill that sitting in school
seats it’s not enough. Although I am only a temporary trainee, I have learn some
good things like caring, being active, loyal, developing, respecting people around
and being cautious positive and dismissive, negative things. In general, after
practicing, I feel grown up with the experience of communication, the ability to
solve problems skill a of interacting with other. from there, I can gradually
improve more myself.
RECOMMENDATIONS

I have a piece of advice for where I practice as a facility that is not very good. The
air conditioner is still hot the most when it is in the afternoon. Where I need to
relieve stress, avoid boredom and relieve pressure to run target monthly. But
when I went to practice, I found out that there were people who were always
dedicated, enthusiastic with their work and always helping people around me.
When I started work, the manager helped me. and teach me new things. Although
the center has good advantages such as staff and students who practice customer
care are available at the office, any questions can be made by [phone or directly to
the office and get answered quickly. Firstly, the physical condition of this facility
is not as good as the facilities such as the center is not equipped with air
conditioning, so on hot and hot weather days, it makes it difficult for students and
teachers in the process of learning and teaching learning, fairly small classes do
not have enough space to perform the lesson activities. Secondly, the center is
still limited in personal, especially the English teachers in the center, the lack of
specialized teachers and the lack of of foreign lectures.

At school, I think that should create more condition for students, to have the
opportunity to learn, study and complete the internship process, for the example,
help you understand what is service learning? …many students and including
myself, have many questions about this internship issue, I go directly to the
faculty office with everyone ask for advice but get unclear answers or discomfort
from teachers. Therefore, I have a recommended that I hope that the school will
actively care for the students, answers the students’ eye problems and meet the
necessary and sufficient conditions so that they can successfully complete the
series good internship in the future.

Beside, this course has a great meaning for students in particular and for the
school in general, it helps students to access practically and harmoniously into a
community. It can be applied in a compulsory subject or associated with
extracurricular activities. This method helps us to train the spirit of mutual
affection, patriotism, and the same time develop personal personality, bringing
teaching and learning to the community.
